➥ There are a lot of times where a person found themselves wondering about their life. Perhaps they do this whenever they looked on their reflections. Maybe it happens when a person become sentimental. But there is this one young lady who always thinks about this, every time she received her test scores or report card.

➥ An average high school student who spent her entire 16 years trying to live up to her parent’s expectations. This girl always tried her best in everything that she did (having good grades, being a good daughter and socializing with her friends). But even though she gave her all, it was never enough.

➥ Everyday was tiring, she had to do what she usually did. She listened to her teacher’s lessons like a good student that she is. She smiled brightly as she talked with her friends, laughing to their corny jokes and being bubbly. She learned how to do everything on her own for her parent’s sake.

➥ But of course, her story is not a happy story at all. Her life is not a fairytale, she doesn’t have a prince who would save her from this kind of life. She’s not a main character for some romantic novel who have a male lead that would take her away from this place. She was all on her own, living this cruel real life. Even though she was tired, she still had to keep trying.

➥ The day that she was having nightmares for, have finally come. Her tests scores and report card were received by her parents. They looked at it with dismay on their faces. To her eyes, their expressions looked so distorted. They looked like monsters and they acted like one.

➥ “What the hell is wrong with these scores, huh?” Her mother yelled looking at the poor girl. “Why are you so stupid! You could’ve got 90 + scores if you are smart like your classmate!” She added as she violently slapping her face. Her father tightly gripped her arms, making purple marks on it. “You’re such a disappointment. Why do I even bother feeding you?” He clicked his tongue as he continued abusing her. He always let out his frustrations by creating bruises all over her body.

➥ She’s tired. Tired of everything. She looked up to the ceiling, she’s screaming and begging for them to stop. She promised that she would do her best next time. She would be a perfect daughter that she wanted. But they didn’t stop, not until they finally got exhausted from beating her.

➥ When they were finally finished, she fell down on her knees. She couldn’t let out a single noise from her mouth, she was tired from screaming. The young lady just silently cried, hugging her knees as she tried to comfort herself.

➥ She wanted to talk with her friends about her problems. So, she decided to open her phone and go through their group chat, only to see them dissing her behind her back. She bit her lower lip as she bitterly smiled to herself. She finally realized that there was no one who’s concerned on her condition at all.

➥ Afterall, people always expect something about her. Her friends wanted her to be the one who always help them with their problems but whenever she needed help, they wouldn’t want to help her at all. Her value to her parents were just her grades. If she couldn’t reach their expectations, she’s worthless.

➥ She always did her best for others that she nearly forgot her worth. Her self-respect was running thin. If she continued living for other people, she would lose herself. She silently chuckled while tears are flowing from her eyes.

➥ She decided that she would stop her façade. She would cut her ties with her fake friends and just shut her heart to plastics like them. “I will take care of myself, everything that I will do is for me alone.” She whispered, wearing a determined look on her face.

➥ She didn’t need to live up to anyone’s expectations. She would do her best to make her life be better. She would slowly regain her self-confidence. She promised all of this to herself. She closed her eyes, having a small solemn smile on her face.

“Just only few years to go and I will get out of this hell.”

➥ Ever since that day, she had change. She became more confident but still kind to other people. She’s still a great student on her teachers. She had straight A’s with her school works and she would always got the high score on every subject. But she did all of these for her well-being not for her parents. She moved out of their house when she finally got enough money to live on her own. She got herself a steady and fulfilling part-time job for her fees. She even got herself a scholarship for college, that’s why she always had allowance that the government would give every month to the scholars like her.

➥ Her life’s not perfect, she still got problems but at least she didn’t feel like suffocating on her every move that she takes. She could make her own decision for her life. She’s the on who is in control.

➥ She finally found her self-worth and she would do her best to live a good life that she had always wanted. “I’m not worthless at all.” The young lady smiled as she took a short glance at her parent’s picture.

“You just don’t know my worth.”
