"You really enjoy running away from me, don't you?"
You quickly whipped your head around, taken aback from suddenly hearing a voice speak. As your gaze landed on the stranger in question, your eyes came to see the same three distinct characteristics you had studied of the man earlier.
'Hajime.' You paled, eyes blinking as you felt your thumping heart accelerate.
He stood behind you, looking down with a smug smile on his face as you stared back up at him speechless.
"Uh, um," you croaked out, your voice sounding weaker than what you had hoped. Clearing your throat, you tried again. "What?"
His forest green eyes scanned your face, assessing your reaction. As he made no further motion to speak, you hastily continued.
"Haha!" You attempted to brush off the situation by neglecting his existence. "Yer must have the wron' pershun, luv."
'Fucking hell, why am I like this.'
Knowing it was too late to drop appearances, you continued.
"Now, if yer'll 'scuse meh." You nodded at him as you started moving forward. With a sneaky smirk on your face, you continued walking towards the entrance of the gym, knowing that you could safely remove yourself from this interaction without having to face him.
Fate, of course, would not allow this.
Having only walked two steps from Iwaizumi, you had become too focused on your false victory and failed to notice the gym bag sprawled out on the floor in front of you. As your right foot came over it, you tripped upon it and tumbled down onto the ground.
'Why does this situation seem so familiar?'
You quickly stood up from the ground and dusted yourself off as you peeked your head back to Iwaizumi. With a pleasant smile on your face, you acted as if the actions previously had not happened.
"Are you alright?" Iwaizumi asked, biting back a laugh.
With your face heating up, you avoided his gaze and softly nodded as you proceeded once again to make your way out of the gym.
"Wait!"
Debating whether to face him again, you halted your step, not knowing what you should do. Reluctantly, you concluded that you can't keep avoiding him as he was currently your new neighbor.
Unwillingly, you turned your frame back around to face him.
Iwaizumi was shocked to see that you actually stuck around instead of avoiding him as you had done previously. That being said, he raked his brain to see what he should say to you now that you were listening. "Uhm..."
You stood there confused why the man wasn't speaking all of a sudden. Your eyes slightly widened in wonder.
Unbeknownst to you, Iwaizumi was checking out your profile, this being the first time he was able to see your face so clearly and for a long time without having you turn away. The more he studied your e/c eyes, the shyer he grew by your sudden presence.
"Mr. Arms?" You questioned out loud, the words innocently slipping out of your mouth.
Quickly gaining back his composure, Iwaizumi smirked. "Mr. Arms?"
Instantly, your face grew hot as you realized your mistake. "I didn't say that," you hastily blurted out, not knowing what else to say.
This only caused Iwaizumi to smile wider. "And would you look at that, suddenly you don't have a strange accent." He referred back to earlier when you had spoken in a different way to throw him off.
The dread of his words filled your chest, the humiliation being too much for you. You quickly shut your eyes, hoping you could jump into an endless hole and bury yourself along with your shame.
Iwaizumi's soft chuckles erupted from his throat, the abruptness of it causing you to stare back at him confused.
"Sorry," he stated softly as his laughter slowly ceased. "It's just so easy to tease you."
He stared back down at your pouting face and quickly spoke before you could misunderstand.
"I don't mean to make you uncomfortable," he clarified. "You are the same girl from yesterday, right?"
You mentally cringed at the reminder.
'By yesterday does he mean yesterday morning at the apartment, or two nights ago when I stumbled upon him on the supermarket?'
Not having the answer, you simply stated a small, "yes," hoping that the remainder of the conversation would answer your question.
Iwaizumi nodded. "I thought so... after I had gone down with Kinu, she showed me a picture of you."
Your eyebrows quickly shot up. "Which picture?" You questioned, knowing that Kinu and you had taken various pictures over the years- as Kinu enjoyed documenting her life for her to share online with her friends and family- and knowing that most of the pictures she took of you weren't exactly the best quality.
"One of you two going fishing," Iwaizumi paused as he remembered the picture. "Or at least I think it was fishing. She said too many things at once so I'm not exactly sure," he confessed.
A soft giggle sounded over your lips, as you imagined the poor man being sucked into Kinu's wild antics and stories, knowing she probably didn't let him enough time to explain himself to her.
"She is a very excited person," you remarked with a loving smile on your lips.
Before he had time to speak to you, you both heard a soft ringing coming from your gym bag.
"Ah!" You exclaimed as you felt the soft vibrations of the duffel bag.
Taking the phone out, you noticed that Yachi left you three messages. Glancing up at Iwaizumi as an apology for the interruption, you swiftly read the messages and took notice of the time.
"I have to go," you told the man after you had finished reading the texts, knowing that Hitoka was on her way to your place.
Iwaizumi nodded. "I'll see you around."
You smiled. "Yeah, welcome to the apartment, Mr. Arms." You teased, feeling comfortable around him already, something that you weren't expecting.
At this, Iwaizumi chuckled. "Mr. Arms?" He repeated your words once again, hoping that the sudden nickname was a positive one.
Your face heated up, cursing yourself for using the damn name without even realizing it. "It just slips out!" You quickly attempted to cover your tracks.
He just shook his head. "I'll see you."
You gave him one final nod as you began making your way out of the gym.
Once you were out of sight, you let out a big exhale, not knowing that the conversation between you two would end up this way.
Iwaizumi was surprisingly very likable and pleasant, something that you weren't expecting. Even after all the mishaps and rough meetings, he was still so cordial and sweet.
Running your way up the stairs, you swiftly made your way into your apartment to get ready for the night, counting the stories in your head that you would have to tell Yachi to catch her up with everything that has happened.
