Cassie stood at the top of the staircase, zoned out. In this moment, she realized how pleasant it felt. A sunny first day of school, and people took advantage of the weather. Both the girls and guys were dressed up, like Kaddie had guessed. Girls in their skirts and dresses, guys in their name brand. The people who seemed under dressed wore jeans with frilly, patterned, or basic short sleeve logoed shirts that still looked nice in the crowd, and quite the crowd it was. A gentle tap of attention, brushed Cassie's shoulder. The suddenness caused her to shiver within. Her head whipped quickly in their direction.
"Sorry. I called 'hey' to get your attention, but you didn't hear me."
"Oh!" the tips of her free hand glided behind her ear, pushing away the subtle hairs that'd fallen in her face. "You're fine." her right shoulder raised as she felt someone passing behind. She took the straps of her backpack into both hands for comfort.
"I haven't seen you before, are you new?" the stranger still stood near.
"Yes a senior, you are?"
The name came and went, like the continuous people passing, and Cassie felt bad for getting distracted. But her brief look of confusion went unnoticed, and she decided to re-ask the name later.
"It's my second year and I'm a part of SGA. I'm a senior too." he was boastful about it. "I like to know all of our new faces. Try to make their first day easier if possible." He said.
Cassie's eyes lit up. His last words sweetly echoed in her ears, and she smiled. If she could get selfless assistance she'd definitely accept.
"Cassie!" a girl sounded Cassie's name up the stairs. It lead a patter from the girl's jogging. Cassie and 'Mr. SGA' looked in the voice's direction. "It's Kelly, Cassie!"
Cassie thought her eyes had beamed before.
"Kelly, you know the new girl?" he was surprised.
A step below the two, Kelly looked up, "Of course." she dragged out. "I told you before that I'm better with exclusives than you." he smirked a bit and Kelly continued, "Well okay, if you were simply trying to help we have other new students on standby." she fluttered her hands at him.
"Okay." he looked around. "There actually are a lot of people who look lost." his voice hid a hint of excitement, and his eyes widened.
Kelly looked at him hopelessly. "Yea, they're called freshman. Tell me you've grown up this summer?" An attractive, but grimy smile stretched across his face. Her head leaning to the side now.
"Nope. Freshmeat is still my thing." he shot her a wink. She was sickened inside, but her cheeks remained high. "You two be careful. Enjoy your first day Cassie."
"Thanks." Cassie smiled at him and pursed her lips as he left. Her eyebrows were raised at Kelly wanting answers.
"Was I almost a part of a fetish?" Cassie laughed.
"Maybe." Kelly shared the laugh, "He's not SGA's best representation." Cassie smiled at the start of Kelly's explanation. "Our school isn't huge, but it's full all sorts of people who do all sorts of things. You can't really peg a person." Kelly stepped up from the last step. "Come on. We can walk and talk."
People continued to the entrance as they did. Kelly continued to talk and assist. They walk slow and aside each other as people do.
Cassie wasn't listening as well as she would have in another location. The chatter in the halls concerned her more. So many voices vibrating around the hall. A complete change of environment in comparison to the tour. Kelly managed to zoom her back in from time, by asking Cassie things that involved an answer. After the third question, Cassie took notice to her again completely. Kelly couldn't be ignored, but Cassie was glad. She wasn't ignoring her on purpose.
