I was packing up my belongings as fast as I possibly could. It was getting harder
breathe by the minute. "Vivian!" my father called, "come on we have to go!" I had a pretty good idea of what was going on. The atmosphere had been filling up with smoke for months. NASA was able to create a spaceship to carry 500 people on a one way ticket to a planet no one has ever been to before.
We rushed out the door with only a small duffle bag. "Only bring the bare necessities" he
told me. We ran to the car plugging our noses and holding our breath. We arrived at the site of the launch within minutes. I could see all the people around us panicking. I looked over my shoulder and was horrified at what I saw. A man who seemed to be within his 30's passed out on the floor from the lack of oxygen. His eyes were bulging and his face turned a mix of blues and purples. I tugged on the sleeve of my fathers shirt and pointed in the direction of the man. Then an announcement came on, "Vivian and Michael McCoy please find the nearest attendant to board now". We rushed to find an attendant since they were the only ones who could bring us to a good source of oxygen. We went up a long flight of stairs to board the ship.
The place was huge. When I looked around I'll I saw was stern emotionless faces
pointing us in the direction of a ladder. We climbed up and saw rows and rows of small cubicles. We got in our seats and buckled the seatbelt. "Get ready for a long ride," a flight attendant said. They hooked us up with masks that were attached to these big metal canisters. Something started to smell weird. I guess what was weird was that it didn't smell at all. We sat there like that for around a half hour. I got used to the smell of fresh air pretty quickly. An announcement came on, "liftoff in 5...4...3...2..." and the last thing I remember is the sound of the deep voice saying the single number "1."
