F2: West Woods
"Come inside," Carlisle said— her father to the visitors.
Jennie looked at them intently while leaning on the wall outside her room.
"Her cat eyes." The person beside the handsome man whispered.
She furrowed her eyebrows when the three visitors looked at her, she was curious why they were looking for her. Was she famous before? Or was it the chief's way to welcome their guests?
"Clandestine?"
Her body froze when her heart beats fast. The unknown sensation she felt before but didn't know when and where it happened. The way he looked at her seems like they met already in the past. There's something inside her that wanted to hug the man but couldn't. She didn't meet him before and barely knew him.
"You can feel it too right?" He asked causing her eyebrows to meet even more.
She did, but she's in denial. She did, but couldn't tell him because it would only look like that she's easy to get and easy to tame. There are many reasons in her mind why she lied, but deep inside her was a longing heart waiting for that feeling to visit her again.
"I have to go, Dad I'll just look around," she said avoiding the man's gaze.
Who is he? And how can he make her feel that way? The question that has been troubling her as she strolls around the village. Is he somehow a magician? Or a love tamer? But she didn't know if those are existing.
Jennie was still confused as she walked straight ahead when something caught her attention. It was a warning saying "Do. Not. Enter. WEST WOODS."
She narrowed her eyes as she touched the sign causing to send chills to her spine. Third time. That she felt something creepy around her. She instantly removed her hands on the sign because of the electric feeling and blew her fingers as if it was burned.
"Damn, what is that?" she asked herself then looked again to the gate's fences that separating the two villages. Weird. If this was prohibited to all citizens here they would build a wall or something that people wouldn't see and they wouldn't be curious.
"What are you doing there?"
Jennie was startled when she heard a cold baritone voice. A familiar voice. She immediately looked at the owner, who's looking at her intensely now. His cold green eyes were giving her fright. She wasn't used to this‒ a guy looking at her like she's a willing prey.
"I'm asking you," he deadpanned.
With his arms crossed she already knew that she should answer for the sake of her being but she just couldn't open her mouth. The atmosphere became daunting and profound. He heaved a sigh then looked at the sign in-between them. He's now in front of her and she was mesmerized by his gorgeous and attractive face.
How can someone be this handsome? She said in mind. She met two hot guys in one day, well, not bad for a small boring village.
"Stop fantasizing about my appearance, answer me." He prompted.
Jennie's senses came back when he looked at her in the eyes. She could see her reflection in his cold eyes making her swallowed hard. She wanted to trap herself in those beautiful green eyes. She felt like she was born again and she's experiencing the first time in everything. Her mom loves her so much that almost cages her just to protect her, and now she's out of the frame, and guesses that she can be free now‒ only this summer.
"Just go, before your chief sees you." He turned his back making her call him nonchalantly.
"Hey, what's your name?" she asked as she was trying to hide her nervousness, but it was visible because of her fingers playing and a bit shaking.
Her father said not to go in the West Woods yet here she was talking to someone who lived there. Maybe it's okay as long it won't harm her, she thought.
"Vladimir. Vlad for short, and V for shorter." He suddenly smiled giving her goosebumps.
Jennie didn't exactly know what just happened but all she knew now was he's staring at her while he turned his smile into a grin. He's creepy, yet indeed a handsome man.
She snapped out when she realized how many times she said handsome today. Countless? From the guy in her house to the guy who's in front of her right now. How many men looked like them here? She badly wanted to know.
"Nini," she said even though he's not asking. She felt embarrassed after that causing her to look down on the floor and closed her eyes firmly. She didn't know what was she thinking when she said her name. It's awkward, especially when he's not interested.
He suddenly offered his hands causing her eyebrows to furrow. "What is that?" she confusedly asked.
She accepted it and felt the coldness of his skin, yet still did the shake hands but V just laughed. She felt annoyed somehow and grabbed her hands with knitted brows.
"Want to see the beauty of the West Woods?" he asked with a warm smile. His aura changed, he looked like a docile lamb right now. He was cute in Jennie's eyes, but she's still couldn't get enough of how cold his skin was, making him wait for her answer.
"Is it safe?" Finally, she spoke.
She looked at him with confused eyes but cast it away when he grabbed her hand and help her jump over the fences. Again, the first adventure she would experience.
"Your chief prohibits you to see the real beauty of nature." He pulled her gently and they both ran inside the West Woods.
Jennie forgot all her father's warnings. She's happy right now that she's free and can see the new world. The world that her parents hid in her, the real beauty she's been dying to see but couldn't because of the unknown cruel reality.
Vladimir moved away from some bushes, revealing a breath-taking paradise. Birds are chirping simultaneously and the butterflies are everywhere. And the best of all was the half-frozen blue lake surrounded by gigantic trees.
"It's beautiful, " she uttered in awe.
It's so relaxing here that she could live for the whole summer. So serene‒ a peaceful place indeed. While feeling the cold breeze, V grabbed her hand and sat under the Sequoia tree. There are a lot of fireflies in front of them forming a different shape like flowers and sun. It's so magical and unbelievable. It's like she was daydreaming.
Jennie and V both smiled at the scenery. This is the first time she felt safe in her entire life. She felt like there's no one could harm her as long as she's in this place and with this man.
"Where are the other people?" Jennie asked out of curiosity.
He chuckled a bit before facing her.
"I lived here alone." Her eyes widened at what he said.
He's living in this magical forest alone, he has this breathtaking visual and a masculine body. His voice is so deep and cold, and his aura is constantly changing. There's something about him that she can't see, and it confuses her.
"Can I visit you often?" she asked again causing his lips to form a smile.
"Let's go back, I guess your father is looking for you," he said and she cheerfully nodded.
They both headed to the fences and again he helped her to pass through it.
"See you soon again, Nini." He turned his back and she looked at him as he walked away.
Jennie wondered why his father prohibited her to see a glamorous spot in this small community. Now, she's starting to doubt him.
What is he hiding?
