It had been two weeks since Meliodas had arrived and most had adjusted although some were still understandably wary.
He had become content eating small animals he found around the nearby woods and bacon whenever his brother provided it.
He still didn't remember much about his past although he had nightmares about dying. However being near Zeldris helped make them less intense. He always felt safe with Zeldris, which is why is was rare for him to leave his side.
He was content with his new life. He finally found the thing that was causing the empty feeling in his chest, and he had food and shelter along with it now.
He wasn't quite sure what a "brother" meant, but he figured it was probably some sort of relationship since Zeldris would call him and Estarossa- he had learned to be the name of the other one- brother. They were both very nice to him, constantly giving him attention and talking to him. It was nice having someone treat him normally instead of a monster who would attack.
He didn't want to hurt any of them. Not even scary lady who kept trying to make him leave. Thsy said her name was Veronica, but he preferred scary lady since he felt like it fit more.
He had no interest in killing anybody. Humans were a lot harder to kill after all and he had been ruined for them when he tried a dead one for the first time. Humans supposedly taste better fresh, but he couldn't bring himself to actually kill anyone.
He just wished he could tell then that. The boy had tried several times to communicate with them, but it always came out in growls instead of the words his mouth tried to form.
He didn't know why it happened. After all, he could understand them just fine and follow the conversation, he knew how to say the words, but whenever he tried it was like his mouth turned to jelly.
"Grrrw, wlll ggg llllllrr." (Hello, nice to meet you.)
At least he was getting better at separating the words so they didn't sound like one blob, but multiple little blobs that followed the syllables perfectly.
That's improvement.. right?
Feeling frustrated with the continous practice, he decided to go say hi to Estarossa. Zeldris was away on a mission and Meliodas was unbelievably bored with him gone.
Walking around the large place, he started to feel sad when he couldn't find Estarossa anywhere, so he decided to ask one of the only other people who was nice to him.
"Grrrrwwwoollll!" (Elizabeth!)
She turned around at the happy little purr and gave him a warm smile.
"H-Hello! Is there something I can do for you?"
He tried his best to explain the situation through his limited way of communicating, but stopped when he realized she wasn't getting it. Letting out an annoyed huff, he pointed to his hair, knowing that Estarossa had a very similar style.
She seemed to understand and stood in shock at how he was actually communicating with her. So far the only ones he tried to have conversations with were his "brothers". The reason he liked being around her was because she was so sweet. He also thought she looked and smelled nice, so that was a plus.
"A-A-Are you l-looking for Esta?"
He nodded, making her eyes widened further in shock.
"H-He's in the g-garden outside."
He gave her a little purr as thank you before walking off to search for Estarossa some more.
Letting out a triumphant growl as he saw him, he ran over and tackled the other in a hug, throughly startling him.
"O-Oh! You scared me Meli. What are you doing out here?
"Grrrrrr rrwww rrrgggg" (Looking for you)
"Aww, you must Zeldris?"
"Rrrwwll, gghghh ghhghh wwwwllll" (Well, yes. But that's not what I said human.)
"It's okay, you can stay put here for a bit if you want?"
He nodded eagerly and purred, something that made Estarossa smile. From what he could see, Estarossa knew he could understand basic conversations, but he didn't know how much his "brother" could understand, which is why he always kept the conversations small.
"Gggwwwrr?" (Ooooh! What's that?)
"Huh? Oh, this is an avocado. It has a lot of rich taste and tons of different things that help keep us healthy."
He sniffed at it and stuck his tongue out in disgust.
"Ghrreeeeeeewww...." (Eeeeeeeeww..)
He could tell Estarossa got that one. He laughed in response.
"Alright well what about this one? It's an apple. Something you used to love to eat. It has a lot of health benefits as well. As people always say, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away."
What's a doctor? Eh, nevermind. It's probably not important.
He stared at the red object and noticed thst it was the same color as his eyes. Taking a hesitant bite even though it smelled absolutely disgusting. He immediately growled and spit it out. Looking at the offending object like it had personally attacked him. And to him it did. It personally attacked his tastebuds.
He looked over at Estarossa and noticed how sad he looked.
"You... really aren't the same anymore... are you..?"
He didn't like seeing his "brother" so sad, so even though he hated it, he grabbed the apple and took another bite. Forcing himself to swallow and take another bite.
He did this for awhile, wincing each time it went down but eating it all the same, until Estarossa took the apple from him, still looking sad but happy at the same time.
"Well one thing hasn't changed about you at all.. You're always trying to cheer me and Zel up. Don't worry, you don't have to eat the apple anymore."
His voice was quiet and kind, sounding almost like how one would to a small child.
Thank goodness I don't have to eat that thing anymore. I might've puked. I still don't like that Esta's sad though.
Sitting down next to his "brother", he laid his head on the other's shoulder before yawning.
"Did eating the apple make you tired?"
He nodded, responding once again in growls.
(Human food takes energy from us instead of gives it because of how hard our bodies try to process it. I learned that from some of the others.)
Of course he didn't understand, but he did start putting his hair to help him fall asleep easier, something that worked as Meliodas began to purr and drift off.
I really like it here. I just hope that someday they can understand me... And that maybe I'll be able to remember the person they always talk about that I used to be.. Maybe then they won't always look so sad...
I hope this chapter was okay, it's just some more fluff. It might be my last one for now.
