Fawn
"Good morning, precinct," Captain Holt announces as he walks up to his podium, several files in his hands. Last night, Jake and I celebrated our reunion with everyone and after several drinks, we both got in a taxi to drop me home. I asked him if he wanted to come in, to which he refused, but he said that he will definitely come in another time.
When I got in my apartment, there was another note, shoved underneath the door and practically crumpled up. After I opened it and saw the same statement as the previous, I immediately threw it away, along with the previous and went to bed. A nightmare unfortunately woke me up a lot earlier than I needed to be awake, but once I've had a horrible dream like that, it's practically impossible for me to get back to sleep.
Thankfully, I was able to get a large amount of coffee from a nearby Starbucks before I arrived at the precinct building, so I'll have enough energy to get through the day.
"I have three cases," Holt continues, holding up the files. "We have a bank robbery case, a missing person case and a physical assault case." Immediately, I raise my hand as the details for the second case catch my attention. "I'll take the missing person case," I exclaim and as Holt hands the file down to me, Jake speaks up.
"I'd like to work the case with Detective Hamilton," he announces, to which I raise my left eyebrow at. I want to question his immediate desire to work a case with me, but remembering that we haven't spent any quality time together in just over ten years, it makes sense that he'd want to work on one with me. Amy requests to work the physical assault case - Rosa asking to work as her secondary - and Charles takes the final case, although he didn't seem entirely thrilled about it.
I open the file and look over the few sheets inside. Some paperwork, details of the supposed missing person and a statement from the person's mother. The details state that the individual's name is Sandra Dempsey, she would have been nineteen a month ago, she has a blonde bob with a fringe, hazel coloured eyes and was last seen wearing the following outfit: white long sleeved turtleneck, a baggy grey jumper, tartan trousers and black boots, paired with a black beanie and a large, fluffy coat.
"What are the case details?" Jake asks as he pulls out a chair and sits down in front of me, with an excited smile on his face. I hand him the file, his eyes beaming with enthusiasm, and after reading all the contents, he hands it back to me and I chuckle at his slightly childish behaviour. "What are you laughing at?" He asks, his smile not faltering whatsoever. I simply shrug and stand up, which Jake copies and he follows me out of the meeting room.
"Have you done many cases like this before?" I ask as we make our way to the photocopy room, as I want to make a copy so Jake can have a folder too. "I've had some kinda similar ones, but never an actual missing person case!" He replies, a powerful and exhilarated look in his eyes. We make into the photocopy room and as I begin to make a copy of the file's contents, Charles pops his head in, looking slightly disappointed.
"Hey Charles, what's going on?" Jake asks, somehow still beaming. When Charles doesn't immediately respond, I instantly realise: he's jealous. From my first day at the precinct, I got a distinct feeling that Charles was very strong friends with Jake - even before I knew that was who everyone was referring to - so I don't entirely blame him for being jealous, but then again, I've known Jake since we were toddlers. "Just looking over the details of my case," he replies, his tone quite dull and bored, "there's really not that much difficulty, so it should be fairly easy to solve."
Jake, being completely unaware of Charles' feelings, just smiles and nods, so I decide to take it upon myself to talk to him. "I'm going to pop to the toilet, so would you mind putting that all on my desk if I'm not back before it's done?" I ask Jake, to which he nods and gives me a thumbs up. After he turns around, I motion for Charles to follow me, which clearly confuses him slightly. I walk down towards the women's toilets, but stop outside and turn to look at the slightly below average sized, brown haired man.
"Charles, what's going on with you?" I ask, my arms folded as he pulls a fake confused face, with too many cracks in to go undetected by anyone. "Don't act confused, as soon as you walked into the room, I could see a sense of jealously in your eyes. What's going on? Why are you feeling jealous?"
A large and heavy sigh leaves his lips, before an apology follows. "I'm sorry Fawn, I just get jealous very easily, especially when there's a really interesting case to potentially work on. Jake has been my best friend since I joined the precinct and whenever someone works an amazing case like that with him, I can't help but feel a tinge of jealously. Honestly, I don't mean to offend you, it's just how I am," he rambles and I nearly have to clamp my hand over his mouth to get him to stop talking.
"It's fine, I just wanted to know why you were feeling that way," I respond, smiling at him. He smiles back, apologises again and then walks down the corridor. Feeling satisfied that I know Charles is just being Charles, I head back into the main bullpen, where I see everyone doing their individual things. Rosa is sat with Amy at her desk, probably talking about their case, Terry is busy filing paperwork, Scully and Hitchcock are eating what looks like a very messy pasta mix and Jake is sat at my desk, his back to me.
"Ready to work this case, Peralta?" I ask as I punch him lightly in the arm and give him a confident smirk, which he copies and sends back to me. "You know it, Hamilton!" He exclaims in response.
