Become.Queen. The worst nightmare of both, the lost princess and the assassin. The only shred of her previous life which Celaena was happy to leave behind.
Frustrated by her helplessness and stupidity which had led her straight into Maeve's trap she had walked out of that room even before Maeve had dismissed her. Gavriel and Rowan had cleared the exit for her only because their Queen had nodded . The former remained in the room while the latter followed her through the dim lit cold passages of the fortress. She was spoiling for a fight and was ready to bet that so was the fae prince behind her .
" You must have pissed Her Immortal Majesty pretty bad for she has put you on nurse duty " Celaena teased .
" Considering the rumours which claimed that you were the deadliest assassin of Adarlan she didn't trust anyone but her best to deal with you. But now it seems that either people of Erilea  do not know what an assassin is or the rumours were false because you are far from an assassin let alone deadly."
" And precisely how does cowering in a fellow warrior's shadow to escort me here or being afraid of even starting a damn fire in the forest make you the best, princeling ."
He was boiling with anger. " I might look young but I have walked through more battlefields than you can even imagine and what have you done? Hide behind people  and then attack and kill them ? Aelin you accept it or not,  you still are a kid."
Was it that god forsaken name or her blind rage that made the worst and the most horrible thought escape her mouth, she isn't sure but she blurted, "After seeing Gavriel and you, wiping out arrogant and proud bastards like you seems to be the only right thing which that monster king of Adarlan has ever done . "
Then came the blow which she much deserved after saying such awful things.
Good.
She hadn't seen it coming,a straight hit at her right calf which sent her rolling to the nearest wall and her mouth  slammed into the cold sharp stone edge. The next thing she felt was excruciating pain followed by the warm taste of blood. As her vision came into focus she could see those empty and emotionless green eyes  before realizing that  Rowan was pinning her down with a punch ready to find its mark at her eye.
"Do it" said Celaena in a voice that came out more as a trembling whisper than an angry shout which she had intended it to be. Black spots were still dancing in front of her eyes but she was ready to embrace the pain. Guilt had taken over . Guilt of Nehemia's death.  Guilt of trying to kill Chaol. Guilt of sitting on her ass while Sam was being tortured. She deserved a lot more than just a black eye for that but pain was the only thing which offered her some escape from the unending guilt .
To her surprise Rowan got up and offered her an arm to do the same . She obviously refused to take the help and stood up on her own. That hand disappeared as soon as it had come and he started walking after saying "Why would I ever give you what you want ?"
She didn't reply and followed him quietly
Although she regretted saying those harsh words, she was glad that she now knew a great deal about her trainer. He was damn fast and she didn't even have time to defend or dodge his blow. Were she to train with this ill tempered fae she would have to be more vigilant.
He then led her up a set of stairs to a shabby door opening into a small and dark room which she assumed was going to be her room. Rowan grabbed a bucket of water and placed it before her, after spilling its contents on the floor.
"Your weapons. " He demanded.
" No. And Why? " she retorted
"Can't you obey one word without any question? I cannot allow an assassin flouncing through these corridors armed from head to toe .Besides you will earn them during training "
"And how are you going to decide whether I have earned them or not."
" Whenever I feel that you aren't going to attack or kill anyone here I will return them. Now do as you have been told because fighting as you saw earlier proved useless. "
"Fine" she said reluctantly but removed all her visible weapons.
"The hidden ones too princess. "
"Agghhhhh!!" She exclaimed but started removing daggers from her boots.
"Tomorrow you have two hours of kitchen duty starting at dawn followed by  training." He explained.
"Do I look like a scullery maid to you?"
"Here you will have to carry your own weight. This isn't a palace princess. "He scoffed and with that last remark he finally walked out.
Now Celaena was rolling over and over on the mattress. While the fatigue of the journey made her want to sleep, the pain didn't allow her to. Rowan had made it pretty clear that this training wasn't gonna be a cakewalk and stuck here without her weapons, she was pondering whether she had made a fool's bargain with Maeve. Rowan offering her a helping hand was another thing which was bothering her , it felt as if he was cloaking his real self beneath the angry and "I - don't- feel - anything" mask. One glance at Rowan's eyes was enough to tell her that something utterly bad had rendered those green eyes empty and emotionless. Not that she cared but plain curiosity made her wonder what could have possibly gone so wrong with him. Her mind then sailed back to Rifthold,  to Chaol and Dorian before drifting into sleep.
