I sit at my desktop staring into my screen. I am trying to find something helpful for my excursion. All I seem to be able to find is a lot of werewolf lore. Most of it does not even seem remotely applicable to my situation. Like, come on really, full moon, ugly hairy wolf man beasts that have a big problem with blood lust? Does not sound much like me. I try wording my search differently for the seventieth time. To my surprise something different pops up. I click the link and it takes me to an unknown page. I slam my fist down on the table in frustration. I have tried so many times over the last two years to find answers through the internet and there is always nothing. Nothing even remotely close to what I am experiencing. It is almost like there is someone who does not want it on the wed. I mean there has to be others like me. Right? It is only logical.
"You good Colt?" Maggie's voice comes from behind me.
I swiftly spin around in my chair. "Don't do that."
"Do what?" she asks.
"Sneak up on me! You startled me," I reply.
"Yes, I startled the one with super hearing and senses, who should have heard me coming from a mile away," she smiles smugly.
"Haha, funny. I was concentrating."
"Sure, you were."
I turn back to my computer screen and growl quietly under my breath. "If there a reason you're hovering?" I ask.
"I heard you trying to put your fist through your desk. Thought I outta check on you."
"I'm fine," I grumble.
"That wasn't convincing. No luck with the World Wide Web?" she asks.
I grumble some more, "not really."
"Have you thought about trying a library?" she suggests.
I swivel my chair back to face her. "If it's not on the internet why would it be in a library?"
"Because the library in town is very old and might have some stuff other library's don't, you know, since we live in the middle of nowhere Vermont," she says.
I ponder for a moment. She might have a point. There might just be something there. I mean, it is worth a shot, right?
"Maybe that's not a bad idea. I'm glad I thought of it." I look at Maggie to see her reaction. She looks unamused. "You know I love you."
She shakes her head at me, "I love you too. Better hurry if you want enough time at the library to look around, they close at five today."
"It's it really getting that late?" I ask. I spin back around to check the time. Sure, enough it is already after fifteen after three. "Well shit, I better get going."
I hear a shout from the kitchen, "language!" Mom yells.
"Sorry Mom!" I shout as I grab my book bag and kiss Maggie on her cheek and run out of my room. As I grab the truck keys off the hook my mom stops me.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" she asks.
Am I? I did not think so, I got keys, bag, wallet in the bag...
My mom spreads out her arms and motions to me to come give her a hug.
"Oh." I give her a quick tight hug and kiss her on the cheek. "I Love you." I dart to the car.
I can hear my Mom say, "I love you too," as I am running off.
***
I walk into the library and I am instantly hit with the smell of a dusty old attic. I cannot say I remember the smell of this place being so pungent, but it also been three years since I have been here. I would say my sense of smell has improved greatly since then.
