So imma explain the setup to the orchestra I'm in, not all orchestras will be set up this way, but they will most likely be similar.
Here's the picture I made...

So in an orchestra there are 5 main groups, violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello and bass

So in an orchestra there are 5 main groups, violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello and bass.
And you probably noticed there are 2 groups of violins. The main reason is so that there can be two parts with one instrument.
You also may notice that the bass and Viola sections are smaller than the rest, that is because less people play those instruments than the others.

In the bottom of the picture there is a key,

The principal it the musician that is "in charge" of their group

The principal it the musician that is "in charge" of their group. They are the one everyone follows, the one they match their bows to.
The concert master is the person who is "over" the orchestra second to the conductor. They stand up at the beginning to tune everyone, and walks on before the conductor.
So pretty much, they are a big deal.
