Running as fast as my feet could take me through the dark and dense forest, trying to get as far away from my attacker with only one thought running through my head, protecting the stone.
The cold air biting at my pale skin and the wind blowing my hair from the messy bun I put it up to.
The twigs and leaves on the floor of the forest left a crunching sound in my wake, bruising my bare feet, and the cold making my feet sore. I can feel it gaining up on me, reaching its lethal claws for me, for the stone. I pick up my pace, running faster than ever before with a goal in my mind.
Soon enough, the scent of acid wafts into my nostrils. My desired destination drew nearer with each slap of my feet. I burst into a clearing with a lake in it, just as it reaches once more for me. I leap into the lake as it grabs a hold of my shirt.
I can feel the irritation the acid lake brings to my skin before I-
I snap open my eyes sharply, taking a big gasp of air, trying to get my labored breathing under control. A machine of some sort beeps rapidly, disturbing my aching head. My eyesight seems blurry as the only thing I see is white. Is this heaven?
Blinking rapidly to clear my vision, I get a better view of my confinement. Turning my head ever so slowly and painfully to my left, there is a big machine making that annoying beeping sound, to my right a big window overlooking a pathway leading into the building I'm in, with some people coming in and out and then all the walls are white.
Ignoring my surroundings, I glance down at my body. A bandage is wrapped around my torso and a tube is sticking out of my left hand. More bandages around my legs and arms. Now more aware of the increasing ache and extra weight on my head, I reach out my right hand to rub my temples, only to feel another bandage.
Now more aware of my surroundings, I notice that I'm not in the forest anymore, Arabella and her pups are missing, I have absolutely no idea where I am and I'm not dead. My panic spikes and the machine starts beeping faster giving me a pounding headache.
Tears stream down my eyes as I grab my head to stop the throbbing pain.
Memories of what I did come flashing through my head, reminding me of what a monster I am, images of the dull, lifeless red eyes staring at me hauntingly.
I pull my knees to my chest and my hands to my head, scratching my scalp to try and get rid of the horrible memories plaguing my mind. I barely register the pain as I scratch my scalp relentlessly.
People rush into the room, alarmed at my state and that spikes my fear even more.
I scurry over to the edge of the bed and push myself up against the wall crying, even more, hoping the wall swallows me whole.
The people in white coats try talking to me, but I hardly hear them over the rapid beating of my heart. My lungs constrict against my ribcage, the room getting smaller with each wheeze of breath coming from me.
A short, plump woman who doesn't look a day older than fifty walks up to me slowly. Her lips are moving but my brain is unable to grasp words, only the sound of rushing water filling my ears.
The room starts to move and blur, in some weird way. My brain pounding against my skull and my lungs squeezing even tighter with the lack of oxygen.
My body sways and I feel myself fall to the bed slowly and my eyelids close despite my mind trying to keep me awake.
The last thing I see is the woman looking more alarmed and a blurry shape of two men rushing into the room whose presence brought me some form of comfort before my body succumbs to darkness.
