The door behind me hissed as the steam released in the air locks.
A moment later, my quarters were dark once more.
Not really in any sort of mood to turn the lights on, I took the few short steps towards my bunk and flopped down into the silken sheets.
I laid there for a moment, listening to the silence that echoed throughout my sparsely decorated room.
My hands rubbed my warm cheeks.
"How does she know?" I whispered to myself, staring at the metal ceiling above my head. "How in the hell does she know?"
Everybody knew the Force was an unexplainable, mystical, all powerful energy that was all around us.
Some people don't have it.
Some people simply have it more so than others.
Growing up as a padawan and eventually an Inquisitor, you did extensive studying and practicing of the Force.
You tried to understand it, tried to hone your abilities and achieve things beyond your wildest imagination.
Never had I encountered someone so young that was able to use the Force in such a way.
Eva could see right through people. She could see what made them tick, what made them them.
That meant she could see me.
As a guarded person, with years of practice of building up tall, sturdy walls, it felt like it was all about to crumble.
It angered me.
I didn't like to think about things that happened in the past. I preferred to stay grounded in the present and make it through one day at a time.
Eva ruined it.
With a frustrated groan, I rolled over onto my side and tucked my hands under my head. I was so tired.
It had been nothing but go, go, go, all day. I just wanted to sleep.
I closed my eyes, praying for a moment of peace.
A few moments stretched into a few hours.
I opened my eyes, squinting despite light being almost completely absent.
Shit.
I flew out of bed and pressed the button to open the doors, waiting impatiently for them to peel apart.
Finally, after the steam blew out, I rubbed my eyes when I was met with the bright LEDs in the hall.
Eva's cell was two hallways down, a relatively quick walk.
My body ached and my head pounded as I made my way down the corridor.
Why did I have to be so goddamn tired?
My fingers snapped and bumped into each other as I involuntarily fidgeted. It wasn't normal for me to fidget, but when my body yearned for rest while my mind could not slowdown, it didn't surprise me.
A few troopers nodded at my passing, though I paid little attention to their futile attempts to please me.
I just needed to ensure Eva had stayed where she was supposed to stay. I never should've fallen asleep.
When I turned down the hall where Eva's room was located, I took note of the troopers that still remained outside the heavy door.
"She better be in there," I threatened, glaring at the duo of purge troopers that stood on either side of the entrance.
