(also no i cannot come up with good titles for the life of me)

You sighed as you stared blearily out of your window and into the dull, boring gray world below. The sky was darkened with clouds, the trees were aged and dying, and the wind was harsh, far too harsh for the end of winter, where spring was supposed to come. The snow had already melted away, but the environment retained its muted colors of brown, orange, and black.

You pulled away, your back hitting the bed beneath you as you turned your attention to the ceiling.

It had been a year since you moved to this small little town, just near the outskirts of where the forest lied. It was nice enough, with its shops and amenities, and even a comic book store that you'd stop by every now and then. But still... it just felt as if something was off, that there was something much more to this town than you originally thought. And make no mistake, the rumors said it all.

"REPORTS OF ABANDONED HOSPITAL IN THE WOODS. CLAIMS OF MYSTERIOUS CREATURE BEING SPOTTED" would dominate the newspaper titles. Adults and teenagers alike would be spreading talk about the so-called creature, claiming to have seen it while they were exploring/vandalizing the place. But most of this just went unchecked. Why? Well, they were just claims. No pictures, no audio evidence, nothing. Even people that'd bring their phones and cameras along would come back, surprisingly, empty-handed.

"It was because of that... thing!"

But what thing? You just couldn't wrap your mind around the question. All of these claims, and yet no evidence, it drove your mind crazy. What was that thing? Where was that hospital? You just had to know.

You sat up, casting another glance out through your window. Still gray, still cloudy. You then glanced at your clock. Just barely after 5 PM. It was still early, early enough to take a walk and hopefully clear your mind of these thoughts. Who knows, maybe you might actually stumble across that hospital, even if by accident.

Sighing, you stuffed your ungloved hands into the pockets of your jeans and began to walk, music playing softly through your earbuds.

You had to admit, despite the chilly air and dying vegetation, the scenery was still quite nice. Leaves of all colors blowing in the wind, birds flittering about and singing their songs, even the hum of the breeze helped to soothe your nerves. You smiled, gradually picking up speed as you went. You waved to other humthros that you passed, most being children or teenagers just hanging out with their friends. It brought a smile to your face, seeing that they were having fun.

After a good 10 minutes of strolling through the neighborhood, you eventually stumbled across a park. It was quite a distance from where you lived and was almost entirely empty. The swings were old and rusted, the slides crooked and out of place, the seesaw chipped and losing its color. There wasn't even a bench to sit at.

Strange... you thought, wondering if it had been abandoned for some time. You approached the playground, eyeing the worn down equipment from a distance. But that wasn't the only thing that caught your eye.

Just to the left of the park lied the woods, the woods of where the abandoned hospital was supposedly located. It was dark, the trees jagged and dead, and it gave off this sort of eerie vibe that definitely caught your attention.

You stopped, eyes now fixated on the path that lead through the woods. It was a dirt trail. You squinted, and barely, just barely... you could make out the view of a building. A hospital.

Should you go? What if all of the rumors were true? What if there was something living in that hospital? Something possibly dangerous? You glanced back towards the road. It was empty, with no one in sight. You bit your lip. Should you go? Or should you not?

Fuck it, you told yourself. Might as well.

It was still early, to remind you, the sun only two hours away from setting. You had your phone with you anyway, just in case something were to actually happen. And maybe, just maybe, you'd finally be able to answer those questions that had been swarming in your head for days. You took a step forward and, with a deep, shaky breath, you started making your way down the path.
