So it was settled, you were staying here for the night. It would be a lie if you were to say that it wasn't uncomfortable, as the thought of sleeping in an old bed, with bugs possibly lurking inside the sheets, alone in this abandoned hospital, just made you shudder with nerves. However, Mystery could easily sense your discomfort, and he worked to make his room as comfortable as possible.
He picked up his mess of drawings on the floor, made his bed, and even offered his doll, Mago, for you to sleep with. Mago was this overly large, cat-like doll adorned with a suit and top hat, which looked much like the doodles you had seen on the walls. But the doll was dirty, and even missing an eye and a few patches of stuffing in some places, so you kindly denied the offer.
"I'm okay, Mystery.. really," you said, forcing a smile to your lips as you got into bed.
"Is Y/N sure?" Mystery knelt down to your level and pulled the covers up over you. You shuddered, but gave an assuring nod.
"I'm sure, Mystery. Thank you."
The bed wasn't as comfortable as you might've hoped, with the blanket barely providing you any warmth, but it was still something. You sighed and closed your eyes, trying your best to fall asleep... but you couldn't.
Mystery was watching you.
"Mystery?" you mumbled, blinking your eyes open.
"Mm?" the feline purred.
"Are you.. just gonna, watch me sleep?" you asked as you shifted around under the sheets.
"Oh? Do you want Mystery to leave?" he asked as he sat up on his knees, almost ready to stand and make his way back down the hall.
You weren't trying to be rude, but you gave an adamant "yes". It was hard trying to doze off with this overly large, possibly deranged cat man watching you. Mystery seemed a bit disappointed at your answer, but he took your word and left. He made sure to keep his eye on you as he went to the door, opened it, and then closed it back behind him.
A relieved sigh escaped from your lips. Finally, you were alone. You wondered how long that would last. Mystery didn't seem like the independent type; he was almost always trying to get your attention or keep you within close range. And well, you suspected that might've been the cause of him living alone in this hospital for so many years. You couldn't even imagine living in a place like this... no heat, no lights, and bugs scattered everywhere through the nooks and crannies of the walls.
Your mind began to drift, and you imagined that maybe there was more to this man than you originally thought...
Mystery. He sure lived up to that name.
You couldn't delve in too deep with that thought, however, as your eyelids slowly drooped, and your vision grew blurry. Fuck, you were tired. You had been up since 6 in the morning and now it was almost midnight. All you could do now was sleep; you'd ask questions later.
You snuggled into the sheets, trying to gather up enough warmth before you drifted off into a deep, quiet slumber.
