You have never realized just how large this hospital was until Mystery had embarked you onto his little tour. Long hallways, rooms at every corner, and that wasn't even considering the other floors. It was honestly incredible, even though you hadn't got the chance to fully explore the rooms. Mystery would go on and on about the details of this place, his job as a doctor, and sometimes would even start to trail off and ask you a random question. But you would always answer truthfully.
By then the two of you had reached the main floor, where you had first entered. Mystery was leading you down the same hallway, but had made a turn, now leading you through a hall that you hadn't seen yet. The feline hummed, and you watched as his tail mindlessly began to swish and flicker your way. You couldn't help but giggle.
Soon enough, the two of you had reached a pair of doors that were a bit rusted near the handles. Mystery leaned forward, pressed his hands near the bars, and pushed the door open. And the sight before you was downright breathtaking.
It appeared to be a courtyard, of sorts, but with this place having been abandoned for so long, a large family of moss and shrubs had literally began to sprout from the cracks of the floor, with dirt and weeds taking their place and filling the area with its beautiful greenery. Flowers of all kinds were growing from the heath, such as daisies and honeysuckles, but the one that caught your attention was the single, white lily flower that sat in the middle of the garden, separated from the rest.
You look up at Mystery, who was already making his way inside. You follow, mouth opened agape as a soft mutter came from your lips. "Wow.."
"Like it?" Mystery grinned at you, showing off those yellowish fangs as he sat down in the fuzzy green grass, gesturing for you to do the same.
And for once, you actually obliged.
"Yeah... it, it's really beautiful," you say with a genuine smile, running your hands through the grass. It was soft and tickled your palm.
"Good! Mystery has been working on this garden for a long, long time! He's put a lot of effort and dedication into his work!"
He fumbles around through the underbrush, plucking out a few stray weeds as he went, and gathered up some flowers. You decide to do the same, gathering red poppies and daisies and blooming violets, before bundling them up into a makeshift bouquet. And then you get an idea.
You scoot closer towards Mystery, and begin to decorate his hair in the flowers, sprinkling them over the top of his head. Although it proved to be difficult, given how tangled his fur was.
But Mystery seemed happy, if not downright ecstatic by your gesture. And he, too, began to scatter buttercups and poppies into your H/C hair, and, as a finishing touch, he tucked a glowing red rose from behind your ear.
You blushed, and Mystery started to laugh. You laughed too.
It was strange, how close the two of you had grown in just the span of a day. You knew that you'd have to go home eventually, but were too caught up in the bliss and cheer of your new feline friend. Wondering how he would take that news, that you'd have to leave.
However, during your brief moment of temporary joy, you caught sight of a wilting lily flower that sat hidden behind Mystery. It was the only lily in the entire garden, and curiously, it had a sticky note taped to the pot that it grew from. Labeled, "MOMMY".
"Hey, Mystery?" your voice snapped Mystery out from his thoughts.
"Yees?"
"What's that?" you point to the flower behind him.
The man turned, and his eyebrows perked up. "Oh, that's my Mommy!"
Mommy? you think, watching as Mystery got to his feet and grabbed a nearby container, beginning to water the lily, despite the fact that it was already overflown with liquids.
"Mystery always makes sure to water her. She needs it in order to grow big and strong! Right, Mommy?"
Silence. But he didn't need a response in order to be satisfied. It tug at your heart strings a bit... knowing that the flower was probably his only source of parental comfort.
Your mouth opened in order to say something, but, as you thought it over, it would probably be far too personal of a question to ask. So you kept it to yourself. While you were curious, you weren't going to pry into his personal relationships and affairs.
After a minute or two, Mystery finally put the container away, the pot now flown over to its brim. And something seemed to spark in his eyes.
"Say, Y/N... would you like to play a game?"
