Before that day, she couldn't remember a time when she felt this way, just old childhood memories that she thought left her mind a long time ago. But now that pain has even found its way into her dreams.
There in her bed she turned back and forth and mumbled them in her dreams, drowned in her tears, trembled and trembled desperately when she suddenly awoke from the nightmares in a flash. She felt her body cold for the first time in years, her paws trembled, and her eyes had a painful expression that perfectly reflected how she was feeling. But worse, she felt an empty hole in her soul, a hole that was there a long time ago but has not noticed until now.
She was silent and waited for a sound, some sound, something. The thing is, she didn't know what to want or what to think about; Her mind was trying to figure out what to do to get this out of her, to get rid of these feelings. After a while she gave up. She decided not to do anything, just wait for her mind to devour her to finally find peace, but for now she just wanted to sleep.
What she didn't know was that there was still hope.
Just as she was about to go back to sleep, she heard someone knocking on her door when a voice called her name.
"Everest?" A worried, still low voice said through the door. She turned her head to the door almost immediately but said nothing.
"Everest, please, let me in." The voice said. Now she knew who it was. It was none other than Marshall.
Of all the pups, Marshall had been the most careful and generous pup since they first met, and she knew it. He was the first to offer her food, to take care of her health, the first to be generous with her. She thought it was because of his work as a paramedic, but there was something more. Of course, it's his job to look after people, but she noticed that he likes to do it, so it was no surprise that he wanted to offer help. Still she was silent.
On the other side of the door, Marshall waited for an answer, but got nothing but silence. Now he knew better how Jake was feeling; It's so frustrating to want to help but be turned down, but he wouldn't give up so easily, he will do whatever he has to do, at least try to help her.
He knocked again. "Look, I'm not going anywhere. I will stay here until you open the door." he said sitting in front of the door, but still nothing came.
Just as he was about to knock again, he heard the door unlock and slowly open when a shadow came out that was supposed to be Everest.
What he saw worried him more than ever. Everest stood there in front of him and cleaned the tears from her eyes. He didn't have to look far at her, only her eyes told the whole story. She cried for who knows how long, bloodlines in the white part of her eyes and the sad look ... that painful look, something he has never seen before. He couldn't help but drop a tear.
"E-Eve ..." Marshall whispered. She looked away.
"Why are you here, Marshall?" She said softly. He slowly moved closer as she bowed her head.
"I ..." he tried to say, still a little shocked. "W-how are you feeling?"
"Everything is a bit tired." She replied without making eye contact. "In fact, I want to go to sleep if you don't mind." She wanted to leave him there and go to her puppy house. When she tried to open the door, she felt his paw on one of hers.
"Please Everest; don't pretend nothing happened. We all want to help you." Marshall said with a little concern in his voice.
Everest growled. "With what? There's nothing wrong with me." She spoke and took her paw off his.
He started to get angry. He tried to calm down a little and sighed when he saw her go into the puppy house. "Don't be like that. I just want ..."
"I'm fine! Leave me alone!" She called to his surprise. He saw her try to close the door and quickly put his paw to obstruct her. He screamed a little but remained silent.
