The hungry scavenger is running towards Marshall and Everest, and as he jumped on Everest, Marshall screamed. "EVEREST, GUCK RUAS!"

Just as Everest turned to see the coyote running towards her, Marshall intercepted it and took the hit for her. Marshall fell hard on his back and gasped a little as he slowly stood up. The scavenger charged and cut Marshall's shoulder with its sharp claws, making him cry out in pain and drop back to the ground. The coyote then sank its teeth into Marshall's hind leg, tore easily into its flesh, and made the poor Dalmatian scream in agony.

Everest stood there in shock for the first few seconds before she fully realized what was going on.

The coyote looked at Marshall and licked his lips as he stared at his defenseless neck. Marshall opened one eye when he saw it quickly approach his throat. But before it can do any further damage, Everest hits him right in the head and knocks the coyote away from Marshall. Everest then slapped the animal's side and the scavenger fled, running away as fast as it could. She gasped a few times, screamed, and stood on her four paws.

"Stay away from us-!" But then she noticed Marshall, bleeding on the cold ice with two open wounds.

Everest ran back to Marshall, who was lying on his side with his eyes closed and breathing heavily.

"Oh no, Marshy!" She exclaimed and put her paws on his injured shoulder to stop the bleeding.

When she saw him spinning on the floor, bleeding and trembling all the time, she worried about his actions. Of course, Marshall is brave and loyal, but why should he risk his own life?

But a better way would be to just warn them; why should he risk his own life ... for her?

"Why?" she whispered, just loud enough for him to hear her. Marshall, holding his shoulder to stop the bleeding, looked at Everest in pain and confusion.

"Why what-?"

"Why did you do that ?!" She screamed, turning her head sharply to reveal her already tearful eyes. "You could have ...! ... that thing could have ... done something worse to you." Tears slowly landed on the ice beneath her as she returned her gaze to his injuries. For a moment there was silence; They could only hear the winds blowing around as she tried to cover the open wounds and look for something to help her with.

Marshall slowly opened his eyes, which had been closed so far from the pain, smiled painfully, and fixed his gaze on her.

"Because you are important to me."

Everest's eyes opened wide and turned her head to face him.

"I couldn't bear to see you get hurt ... knowing that I could have done something." He went on in a tired voice, smiling the whole time and looking into her eyes.

Everest didn't say a word, she couldn't even blink, and looked at him in confusion. Those words touched her in a strange way that she couldn't describe at the moment. "Yes-you would risk your life ... for me?"

Marshall saw that she was just standing there in shock, so he asked.

"Everest? Eva, are you okay?"

Everest blinked a few times; She looked at her paws, blood began to cover them. She shook her head and answered. "Y-yes ... I'm fine." She answered, still trying to get back to reality. "K-can you walk?"

Marshall grimaced in pain and answered. "Well I can try."

Everest took her paws from his leg wound and saw Marshall try to get up, but the moment he put pressure on his hind leg he cried out in pain and fell on his side again, closed his eyes, breathing heavily again, blood seeping in still out of his back leg and shoulder.
