Everest was roused from her sleep, one eye opened at the time, revealing the ambulance first aid booth where the two pups had spent the night. She took the covers from her body, sat down, shook her head, and shortly afterwards gave a yawn. The memories of the last attack didn't make her sleep so well, which added to the possibility of being attacked again after seeing the coyotes around her last night. The husky sighed and mentally prepared for the difficult times.
The last victim of these creatures was still asleep. Marshall was still right next to her, sleeping soundly like a baby. He is lucky that his leg wasn't an obstacle for him to fall asleep normally. Again the memories of the last day collided with Everest Geist, how he defended them, what he said ...
The mountain puppy jumped off and carefully opened one of the doors to look through a gap. White snow, a blue, clean sky that can only be found at the South Pole and which cannot be seen otherwise. It was too strange, she feared these animals had smelled Marshall's blood, but they were gone. She decided this was an opportunity to move and returned to where the Dalmatian was.
"Marshall, wake up." she moved it with one paw. The puppy groaned and yawned, still a little tired, and slowly tried to open its eyes.
"Uh ... morning, Eve," he said, stretching and sitting up. "Everything OK?"
"I wanted to ask you the same thing," she replied, looking at his injured leg. "How do you feel?"
"I'm fine, my back leg and shoulder still hurt, but I think it's getting better." he said back, moving his shoulder carefully.
Everest was still watching him with worried eyes and then sighed. "Well, that's good. I just wanted to make sure you felt better." she smiled a little. "I'll try to get in touch with the others, I'll be back in a second."
Everest headed for the door again without seeing Marshall trying to follow her until she heard him scream softly over his wounds, she suspected, so she stopped him in the seat. "You should probably stay inside for now, you're still hurt, I promise I'll be quick." Marshall started to answer, but just sighed and lay back.
So she quickly jumped out of the ambulance and took a deep breath as she landed on the thick snow. Again, nothing nearby. She took the chance and activated her puppy tag to see that she could possibly get a signal. Unfortunately, it didn't work even after several attempts.
AAHH! A scream came from the ambulance. The coyote was coming back as he got into the ambulance and crawled up to a defenseless marshall. Everest felt her soul leave her body for a second. "No! Marshy-!" she screamed, but the moment she was about to return, a set of paws pressed her against her back. Everest quickly knocked the animal away and then tried to return to the ambulance.
At the entrance to the ambulance she saw the animal hop, blood dripping from its jaw like a red waterfall.
Everest couldn't hold back the tears and just imagined what had just happened. Without delay, she hurried to the vehicle and immediately jumped in. She couldn't believe her eyes and closed her throat to speak words that never got out of her. Marshall lay in a corner of a pool of blood, begging excruciatingly. "E-Ever-est ... H-Help"
Everest ran towards him, only to see a fatal bite wound on his throat that was soaked in blood. Marshall started convulsing, coughing up large amounts of purple fluid, and tried to formulate a sentence. "I'm so sorry ..." he said. Everest tried to say something, but he had held her paw at the last moment. "I hope you find your parents ..."
Everest panicked and tried desperately to put pressure on the opening of his neck, but it was hopeless. "Marshall ... no, you can't go. I can't lose you either! Marshy!"
