Edward obviously knew the girl was there from the minute she opened the door, but he couldn't care less.

He felt the familiar surge of venom flow into his mouth, along with the tightening of his muscles as the monster within him roared to life. Aris's blood didn't necessarily smell any better than a humans, but rather it just smelled different. Edward couldn't pinpoint it, but he immediately knew there was something different about her just from her scent. He pushed that thought aside though, convincing himself that her blood just had its own original scent like lots of other humans.

The two stood in silence, just looking out over the town peacefully. After a couple minutes, just out of sheer boredom and wanting to hear a new mind for once, Edward attempted to read Aris's thoughts.

Edward could hear the buzzing of all the familiar minds around the house, so he tried to zoom in and focus on the loudest one which would be hers, since Aris was standing not even ten yards away from him.

"Ow, damnit." Aris hissed under her breath, clutching the sides of her head in pain as Edward attempted to look into her mind.

Edward was immediately taken aback by this. His skill had never caused anyone pain or any other side effect before.

He was also taken aback because he was unable to read her thoughts in the first place. This of course was because Aris was an iridescent, meaning she was completely immune to immortal gifts.

Edward was instantly filled with frustration, not understanding why he couldn't read Aris's mind. He had only ever met two other people whom he had had somewhat difficulty reading their thoughts, those two people being Charlie and Bella Swan.

He continued to try and break through the barrier blocking him from reading her thoughts, but the harder he tried, the more agonizing the pain Aris was feeling became.

She continued to clutch her head, whimpering quietly as she didn't want to cause a scene, not knowing what on earth was going on. Edward saw the pain she was in and immediately connected the dots, realizing it was him causing it.

He instantly stopped trying to read Aris's mind, which caused her pain to subside and a sigh of relief to escape her lips.

Though he had no right to, Edward was instantly filled with a sense of hatred for this girl on the balcony, as she had reminded him of his biggest regret which he had been desperately trying to distract himself from.

"Pretty isn't it? The night sky," Aris mused, looking off into the distance, "I think it's twilight right now if I'm not mistaken."

Edward said nothing to the girl, knowing that if he opened his mouth the only thing that would come out of it would be something rude, which this girl had done nothing to deserve.

Aris turned to Edward after a minute of silence, confused and slightly frustrated as to why this stranger couldn't even give her the common courtesy of responding.

"You know, it's rude to ignore someone who's trying to talk to you." She said curtly, turning back so she was facing the town again.
