(this chapter has little to do with butterflies but it's a cool title so ya) —• 𝑦/𝑛'𝑠 𝑝𝑜𝑣 —• 𝑠𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑠𝑘𝑖𝑝~ "ADVANCE!" erwin yells and thus began the 57th exterior scouting mission.
it's your first time outside the walls and the first mission as part of the scout regiment and in the hange squad.
"are you nervous?" you're jerked out of your thoughts with hange's question.
"honestly im nervous but i'll be fine... i guess," that was a huge lie. you were shaking so much that you wouldn't be surprised if you fell of your horse.
you lift your head and glance over at hange. her face was perfectly calm, yet determined. you let out a shaky sigh and you feel like your heart was a ticking time bomb.
hange's pov —• y/n looks pale... she was breathing hard and clearly trying to hold herself together. i can't let her be nervous forever!
"y/n! can you fire a red flare?" she doesn't respond. "y/n! fire a red flare," i say a little louder, still keeping a calm voice.
"aAah- uh yes?" i sigh again, "fire a red signal flare" and i watch her fumble around for the flare, looking slightly hurt.
y/n's pov—• you're deep in your thoughts until hange's voice cuts in.
"fire a red flare," you hear her say with a sigh.
saying nothing in response, you fumble with the gun and the flare, the heavy silence getting louder every second. after managing to fire it, you lose your hearing for a few seconds before letting out a sigh of relief, although the relief didn't last long until hange tells you,,
"y/n. calm down. you'll be fine. listen, we need to take down the titan,"
her thick and stern voice added no comfort to the already terrifying order.
well that's a rather tall order for someone like me.. despite your ever accumulating thoughts and questions, you nod.
hange's pov—• y/n's thoughts and feelings were etched all over her beautiful face.. please don't be scared, i'll protect you..
"let's go! it's your first time so i'll distract it for you"
y/n's tense face loosens up into a worried smile and she nods, trying to show her trust to me. i give her a reassuring smile and leapt off of my horse.
𝑦/𝑛'𝑠 𝑝𝑜𝑣—• seeing hange's confident smile gave you confidence. you stand up, almost falling over, you follow hange to the titan's body. you look around one more time and you see hange swinging around catching the titan's attention.
don't waste your time! you're making hange waste her gas! you inhale and close your eyes, preparing yourself to cut the titan's nape.
don't fuck up.. don't think,, just go for it aiya! just shut up already!

"you did it y/n! you did it!!"
you slowly let your eyes open and at that moment your were flying through the air, you smiled. at least i'm not as hopeless as i thought
telling yourself to not get distracted again, you position yourself to land back onto your horse. you let out a loud exhale startling hange.
"hey hey are you ok??" slightly panicked you said "yeah i'm just fine just kinda glad i didn't die y'know"
she laughed.
your stomach was flipping out and your heart hammered hard,,
「butterflies」
am i seriously panicking because of a superior or is it just a panic attack for the titans..? you'd much prefer the latter especially because hange was right next to you,,
"are you seriously ok?" she asked in concern.
no! of course i'm not ok! why does my heart beat so vividly when i'm with you? why does my stomach quiver when you look at me? that damn smile too!
knowing full well that no matter how hard you tried to cover it up, you definitely did not look ok, you still answered, "yes," although hesitantly.
she definitely wasn't buying it..
𝑎𝑢𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑟'𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡𝑒: it's been quite a few days sorry lol i was kinda out of it and studying for exams too,, my birthday is a few days and i've been eyeing this hange figure but it's suuuuper expensive but i need it 😩🤚 why am i like this 🏃♂️🏃♂️
