"Yoongi!" Namjoon called, slipping on his shoes. "Are you ready to go?"

"Y-yes!" Yoongi bounded down the steps, looking especially tiny and squishable in one of Namjoon's sweatshirts. "Yoongi is ready!"

Namjoon smiled fondly, taking the hybrids hand as he led them out to the car.

"Where going?" Yoongi asked, sliding into the passenger seat as Namjoon started the car and pulled onto the street.

"We have to get you some things." Namjoon explained as he drove. "We're going shopping."

Yoongi had been with him for almost a week now in their new place, and Namjoon had wanted to do this a lot sooner, but the hassles of moving had taken more time than he had realized to finish. But he started a new job tomorrow, so this was the best time to go.

He parked in front of the store. "Beanie." He reminded the hybrid.

Yoongi huffed, grumbling that he didn't like the scratchy beanie, but dutifully pulled one on anyways.

Namjoon only made him wear it because a hybrid officer could stop Yoongi at any time and demand his ownership papers- which Namjoon didn't have because he didn't own Yoongi.

If anyone found out he was a hybrid, Namjoon would get arrested for stealing him (even though Yoongi had gone on his own) and Yoongi would get sent back to that horrible man, who no doubt would severely mistreat Yoongi for running away.

"I'm sorry," Namjoon took his hand again as they entered the store. "After this, we'll buy you some softer beanies, okay?"

Yoongi purred, and pressed himself closer to Namjoon.

"Welcome, how can I help you boys today?" The clerk behind the counter asked.

"Hi, I'm just looking for a cheap phone for him." Namjoon nodded.

"Y-Yoongi gets a phone?" Yoongi asked, astonished.

"Of course, it's important you have one, so I can call you or you can call me whenever you need." Namjoon explained.

Yoongi was excited. He had never had a phone before, that was a luxury reserved for humans only.

An hour later they leave the store with Yoongi babbling in awe at the little device in his hands. He's tapping all the buttons, opening all the apps and typing nonsense on the keyboard and having the time of his life.

Namjoon lets Yoongi enjoy the phone as he drives to their next destination, but once he parks, he faces Yoongi fully.

"Kitten, let Namjoonie put his number into your phone, okay?" Namjoon gently pried the device out of Yoongi's grip.

Yoongi unbuckled and crawled across the seats, hitting the button for the windshield wipers and accidentally turning the volume of the radio all the way up as he fit himself snugly between Namjoon's chest and the steering wheel. He curled up on the humans lap, watching Namjoon add himself to his contact list.

Namjoon shut off the car so they could have some peace. "Here, this is me, okay? So if I'm at work and you need to talk to me, you press this button here, the little green phone icon, okay? I promise I'll always answer, okay?"

Yoongi nodded, tongue poking out slightly as he stared at the screen.

Namjoon considered teaching the kitten to text, but with Yoongi's inexperience with language, it would be easier for him to just call, until Namjoon could tutor him.

It wasn't Yoongi's fault he couldn't read or write that well, and his speech was obviously not at the level it should be, because hybrids simply didn't get an education growing up. A lot of them were mute due to never learning how to talk, so Yoongi was considered one of the lucky ones.

"Come on, kitten." Namjoon hummed, scooting Yoongi off his lap so he could open the car door and climb out. "Let's get you a comfier beanie, hmm?"

Yoongi followed him out, absorbed in his new phone, and Namjoon grabbed the hybrids arm, guiding him through the parking lot to the building, where he found the pet aisle and went to the cat area.

"Yoongi, do you want any of these?"

He expected Yoongi to be fully immersed in his phone and not need any toys, but when Yoongi glanced up he gasped, eyes going wide at all the colorful toys.

"Maybe I shouldn't have brought you here." Namjoon raised an eyebrow as Yoongi ran over, grabbing all the toys he could in his arms, sniffing them and giggling to himself.

Namjoon found it cute, but he had to draw the line when Yoongi started biting a catnip infused stuffed mouse, as people would stare.

He grabbed the top five toys Yoongi picked out and hid them in the shopping bag. Yoongi insisted he wanted to hold the mouse in his mouth, making it squeak every now and then when he nommed down on it.

Namjoon led him to the clothing section. "Here, we can buy you some new shoes. What kind do you like?"

Yoongi shrugged, only paying attention to his mouse, so Namjoon got a couple different kinds in different colors. Yoongi wouldn't need a lot, he didn't go outside the house much and never wore shoes indoors because he preferred to be barefoot.

He let Yoongi pick out some new shirts, hoodies, pants, soft beanies and warm sleep wear for the winter, knowing he really shouldn't be spending this much, but it was for Yoongi, so it was worth it.

They got ready to check out, and Yoongi gasped, the mouse falling out from between his teeth when he saw the big, fluffy cat bed.

He raced over to it and buried his face in the red fleece, giggling at how soft it was.

"Namjoonie, Namjoonie!" Yoongi begged him. "Please, Yoongi can has?!"

Namjoon stopped. "Yoongi, honey, you don't need a cat bed."

Yoongi's ears deflated behind his hat. "But...then where will Yoongi sleeps?"

"On my bed, the big human bed." Namjoon explained.

Yoongi was shocked. "Yoongi...gets big bed?! W-with Namjoonie?"

Namjoon realized how that sounded and blushed. "Uh, um, I mean, if you want to. Like, I just didn't want you to have to curl up all tiny and sleep in a limited space. You deserve a human bed, is all I meant, and I just, uh, um, I could like, sleep on the couch or something-"

Yoongi squealed in happiness, nearly knocking Namjoon to the ground in a hug.

If he were a puppy hybrid, Namjoon imaged Yoongi would be licking his face.

He chuckled, picking them back up. "Come on, little kitten. Let's go home and get some warm dinner."

They paid for the items and Namjoon downloaded some apps for Yoongi. They were apps for cats and little kids, so Yoongi could chase digital fish and mice across the screen, as well as learn the alphabet and colors and counting.

The car ride home was comfortable, with the evening sky shining with stars and Yoongi's soft purrs filling the warm car.

Namjoon held his hand out and Yoongi immediately nuzzled his face against it.

"Th-thank you, Namjoonie." Yoongi powered off his phone to smile at the human. "Yoongi is g-grate-gratef-fu-f-...Yoongi is happy!"

Namjoon chuckled. "Good to hear. You being happy makes me happy, kitten."

Yoongi settled against his seat, nomming his mouse toy as he batted at the fish swimming across his screen as Namjoon drove.

Both of them were happier than they had ever felt before.
