A boy covered in blood

Pain; it was a horrible burning feeling inside the boy's skull. What had caused such an awful sensation to rip through his body? Bright blue eyes clenched shut in agony as the nerves in his abused throat begged for relief from the lingering feeling of calloused hands gripping tightly, cutting off much-needed oxygen. He had been in the prison with Dream for over a week and the older man had started to attack him, though not entirely unprovoked. The memories came rushing forth like a tsunami, crashing down with a horrible realization that he could no longer hear the steady drips of the crying obsidian or the constant flow of the lava. It was quiet, far too quiet. Shaking hands gripped at the ground hoping to feel the cold stone but instead soft warm grass brushed against his fingertips. 'What the fuck?' The sound of footsteps rushing towards him are what snapped Tommy out of his dazed state. Squinting at the brightness of the sunlight Tommy could just barely make out a silhouette hovering over him with a familiar coat swaying in the breeze. "W-wilby?" He couldn't help but flinch at how broken and raw his voice sounded. "Uh...sorry kid but my name is Ethan." Tommy tried to sit up, but pain wracked his body, causing him to shudder. The figure descended and held him down gently. "Don't move. You look like you've been through the ringer. I'll take you to our place; Sam knows how to treat injuries better than I do."

With that, Ethan picked up Tommy in his arms and started trudging back towards wherever he came from. The boy was too dazed to wonder whether this figure was friend or foe; all he knew was that the latter didn't seem to want to immediately harm him. With that in mind, Tommy finally allowed himself to succumb to the sweet oblivion of sleep. It took almost an hour for Ethan to reach the flower biome that boarded the edge of the dark oak and mushroom forest he called home. The familiar shape of a large white laying cat with one blue eye and the other yellow greeted him happily as did the figure of his friend tending to her carrot farm.

"Hey Sam!" he called out. "I found someone, a kid. He's hurt pretty bad. Mind if I go in and put him on your bed?" Her head snapped up to look at him with wings spread out in concern, "A child? O-oh stars, that's so much blood." Running over to his side she was quick to inspect the blond boy. "What happened to him?! Yes please bring him inside and then explain!" Her talons kicked up dirt from how fast she moved to the door at the chest of the feline building. Ethan quickly went through the door and gently placed Tommy's sleeping form on Sam's bed. "I'm not sure what happened. I was out mapping the terrain when I heard a thump right close by. He was like this when I found him." With a wet cloth in her hand she began to clean away the blood, "It looks like he was beaten or trampled, did a Hoglin escape the Neither or something?!" "I think I would've seen it," Ethan replied. "Though I guess it's not impossible. Whatever happened, we'll hear what he has to say when he wakes up." She just nods as the cloth was quickly stained red, rinsing it in a nearby bucket she repeated the process. "I'm gonna change his clothes, what he's wearing is burned and bloody... You should go home and rest. I'll send a parrot if I need you." With one last look at the sleeping boy he nodded and headed back to his tree house for the evening. The female was careful as she cut the blood caked shirt off of the boy and did the same with his shorts leaving him in thankfully clean underwear. It was then she saw the obvious bruising imprints of fists, someone had beaten this child and from the looks of him they were aiming to kill. 'Who would do this to a child?' Sam moved from her spot beside the bed and discarded the disgusting clothes into the trash, she'd make him a new outfit later for now she was focused on applying a healing salve to the broken and bruised flesh. "Rest easy child this will help mend your broken body. Whatever being that harmed you won't find you here." So the sun began to set as the half raven woman took a blanket and covered the sleeping teen before settling into a nearby chair for the night with a book in hand. The only sounds to be heard was the crackling of the fireplace and the occasional turn of the page after all Sun Tzu said, "It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected." She would not fail to protect one who so obviously needed protection.
