A weeks time was up and today was the day. I started to get nervous just thinking about the turmoil I will need to put up with from all of those "Dunderheads" as Snape liked to call them. And there he goes popping into my mind again. Thoughts of him have been more frequent since I literally bumped into him in Diagon Alley. I cursed myself and my two left feet.
There was a knock at my door. "Sage, Honey are you ready?" My Dad asked.
"Yeah, I'm all done. Just got to take my trunk downstairs." I replied as my Dad walked in and grabbed my trunk for me.
We got into in our Muggle car to King's Cross Train Station.
"Are you excited? It is your last year at Hogwarts!" Mom asked turning back to look at me in the back seat.
"Yeah, I can't wait." I replied sarcastically doing some jazz hands.
"You are going to do great like always, hun." Dad chimed in smiling at me through the rear view mirror.
"Thanks, Dad."
We arrived at the station and made our way in. Both of my parents had smiles on their faces. I'm pretty sure it brings back memories for them when they both attended Hogwarts so long ago. My Dad was a Hufflepuff and my Mom was a Slytherin. They met in the Wizard's Chess Club. How romantic... maybe I'll get to meet my soul mate like that. Maybe I should Join the Chess Club. I quickly shook my head no to the thought. I'm fucking bloody terrible at it.
"Alright, ladies first." Dad gestured for us to run through the brick pillar between platforms 9 & 10.
My Mom grabbed my hand and we both took off running into the pillar. Once through the threshold, we stood to the side waiting for my Dad. He followed quickly after.
"Well I guess this is it, huh?" I turned back to my Mom and Dad as they both had tears forming in their eyes. I didn't want to leave them again, but its one more year I guess. Who knows maybe things will change?
Both of them came into hug me and kiss my forehead.
"You will be fine. Just focus on your studies and get er' done." I smiled at my Dad's muggle response. He was such a dork and very fascinated with the Muggle world. Maybe a little to fascinated.
My mom winked at me saying, "You know we are just an owl away. Plus, I'd like to hear how things go with the young man we ran into at the Apothecary." I felt the blush quickly making its way to my face.
"Yeah, okay sure Mom like that will ever happen." I rolled my eyes. My Dad gave my mom a look. He hated being left out. My Mom shoot back, "I'll tell you later."
Giving them one last hug as I stepped on the train.
I made my way to the back of the train and found an open booth. I plopped down onto the seat taking out a copy of my favorite book, Jane Eyre. I have read it so many times that I just used it to pass the time. I couldn't help it, I was a major hopeless romantic.
I was so caught up in the book that I didn't feel the train pull out of the station. I looked out the window and we were already full speed on the way to Hogwarts. I continued to read.
A few moments later I heard, "Excuse me." from a very quiet voice. I looked over to see a girl about my age. She was already dressed in her school robes. She was a Hufflepuff. "Do you mind if I share this booth with you? All of the others are jammed pack." I nodded and gestured to the seat across from me.
Not trying to be rude, I put my book away. Maybe I could make a friend. It's my last year. Fuck it. Why not try. I watched her as she sat down looking at me. "Thank you so much. My name is Emily, but I prefer Em."
"It is a pleasure to meet you Em. My name is Sage. What year are you?" I asked trying to keep the conversation going.
"I'm a seventh year. How about you?"
"Same. I don't think I've ever see you around before."
"Oh, I've been in a few classes with you." She corrected me.
"I'm sorry. I don't really pay attention to anything else but the lessons." I tried to justify. Cursing myself for even saying that I've never see her before.
"It's quite alright. I totally understand. No hard feelings. So what are you reading?" She questioned pointing at the book in my lap.
"Jane Eyre."
Her eyes opened wide, "No way. I love that book."
I cheekily smiled. Glad I wasn't the only one who was into muggle romance novels.
For the rest of the ride, we sat there and chatting it up. I really like her. We definitely got along. I think she felt the same way. It's amazing what can happen when you actually attempt to keep a conversation going. A friendship is at large, I think.
The train came to a stop.
"I have never met someone so much like me. I'm glad we met!" She was as excited as I was. We clicked so well together. Almost like two peas in a pod.
"Right?!"
"How about we meet in the courtyard after dinner and see if we have any classes together?" I smiled when she asked.
"Let's do it."
We exited the train and got ourselves loaded up on to the carriages. Continuing to chat about the other things we liked and so on.
We entered the Great Hall and we split up heading over to our designated house tables.
I tried to find an open spot in the back, but to my disappointment there was nothing. The only openings were to the front by the section marked off for the first years that will get sorted in to Slytherin. Yes, I was Slytherin. Following in my mother's foot steps.
I got settled and the Headmaster started his speech. The usual expectations of seeing good things out of us this year and introducing some new professors. I looked up at the head table and met eyes with him. I don't think it needs much explanation of who "him" is. He was already looking in my direction. I quickly turned my head to my food. Hiding the blush behind my bangs.
Ugh! Why can't I just act normal and nonchalant about this. No, I act like a bloody idiot. Since day one, I could never speak properly in his class and I couldn't stop blushing when I thought of him. Why does he have this sort of effect on me? He makes me weak at my knees and it frustrates me that I can't help it. Too bad he doesn't feel the same way... Yeah right. I stopped my thoughts, disappointed that I even went there.
The feast was over and everyone started to make their way out of the Great Hall. I quickly made my way over to the courtyard excited to see Em. She was already there. Giddy as could be she turned to me waving me down like I was a plane coming down for landing. I'm glad she was as excited as I was about our new friendship.
"So what do you got?" I asked looking at my schedule.
"I've only got four classes this year." She said.
"I've got three. Advanced Transfiguration, Advanced Defense Against The Dark Arts and Advanced Potions."
She smiled, "I got the same just Advanced Herbology after Potions." This year was going to be better now that I have a friend in all of my classes.
"We got the same classes! I guess we should head to our rooms before Filch has a heart attack that we are out of bed." She smiled with a nod and we headed off.
We walked through the halls and got to the point where we had to spilt up.
"Let's meet here tomorrow before breakfast! Then we can go to our classes together."
"Hell to the yes." I agreed and continued on our ways.
I made my way to the Slytherin Common Room entrance reciting the password, "Pure Blood". Walking up the stairs, I got into my room. Perks of being a 7th year we got our own room. Thank god. My own peace and quiet.
I brushed my teeth, changed into my Pjs and headed off to bed excited to get this new year started.
