Third Person POV:
Adora ran over to where Catra was sleeping. She was still in the same spot and position in her sleeping bag. The paper she had found in Catra's backpack was still clutched in her hand.
"Hey Catra," Adora whispered, shaking Catra softly.
"Mmm... what...?" Catra said groggily before glancing at Adora's hand to see a chunk of paper peeking through her fingers.
"WHY DO YOU HAVE THAT?!" Catra exclaimed, pouncing on Adora, yanking the paper from her hands.
"Catra listen I-"
"Did you read it?!" Catra asked, glaring into Adora's eyes.
"Well yes but-" Adora stammered.
Catra growled and clutched her backpack, then sprinted to an opening. "Catra!" Adora yelled, running after her and pinning her wrists down but Catra kicked her in the stomach sending them bowling over a slope. Adora shrieked only to be met by Catra's soft hand clamping her mouth shut as their bodies impacted a hard dirt surface.
"Why would you read it Adora?" Catra asked, her face flushed pink with embarrassment. She looked like she wanted to pop out of existence.
"In my defense, it was right there-" Adora stuttered in an attempt to justify herself.
"Did you maybe think I didn't want you to read it?" Catra yelled, getting up as Adora got ready to follow her.
"Don't follow me!" Catra snapped.
"Wait Catra-"
"Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. She doesn't want you, there's more important things in her life." Catra muttered to herself. Adora, being Adora, eavesdropped.
"Catra, that's not true..." Adora said, reaching her hand out to her.
"If it weren't true, you would've noticed Adora! It's not like I was being subtle, idiot!" Catra yelled.
"Catra- it's true, I'm an oblivious idiot and I should've been able to see the fact that you liked me. I didn't even realize that I liked you, at least, not until the whole incident with you getting trapped on Horde Prime's ship. Even then, I still couldn't bring myself to accept it because I thought you wouldn't feel the same way but-" Adora paused, searching for the right words,
"I love you too."Catra's pupils dilated in shock, "Are you-"
"Yes Catra, I'm sure," Adora chuckled.
Before they could indulge in each other's words, a familiar sound of a click and a flash rung through their ears as Catra's tail perked up. She ran behind Adora before cooling her fur and stepping upfront with her arms crossed.
"Care to explain?" Catra asked, shoving a bush aside to reveal short bushy hair and a blue outfit.
"Um... I'm a figment of your imagination...? Pretend I'm not here." Netossa whispered as she quickly sprinted away. Adora smiled, rolling her eyes at the sight.
"Anyways..." Adora's words drifted off, she should've thought this through, "Apparently I don't have the ability to flirt," she chuckled.
"No duh dimwit," Catra snorted.
Adora chuckled again, tracing her hands along Catra's waist, "Is this how it works?" she asked, whispering into Catra's ears, her hot breath lingering on the tips.
"Sort of," Catra smiled before clasping her hand around Adora's wrist and pinning her against a tree.
"But I do it better," Catra smirked.
"Hey! I can totally flirt," Adora giggled, rolling Catra over, their noses brushing. Adora watched Catra turn visibly red, "This isn't fair!" Catra protested, her cheeks red.
"This is not at all how I imagined we would get together," Catra said, laughing between words.
"Awww you imagined us getting together?" Adora asked, her eyes lighting up the way only an anime protagonist does when they lock eyes with their love interest.
"Shut up!" Catra yelled, pushing Adora away, making sure her claws were sheathed.
"Besides, we can't get together, I don't know if you've noticed but we're in the middle of a war." Catra said, looking down to avert watching Adora's expression drop.
"Of course I know that, I've almost lost people to this war, I almost lost you but the important thing is that we're not gonna give up, no matter what," Adora said determined.
"That-" Catra stared in awe at Adora before her face twisted into a smirk, "...was one of the cringiest things I've ever heard." she laughed.
"Hey- it's true!" Adora stammered before breaking out into a laugh with Catra, not being able to help herself.
Adora looked off into the distance, seeing a small yellow light slowly poking up from the sky. Catra traced her gaze as her sight landed on the sunrise.
Catra's POV:
I should make a move.
So that's exactly what I did. I watched Adora's eyes light up as she gazed in awe at the sunrise.
Don't stutter.
"Wouldn't it be fun if we do that cringey thing where couples kiss while the sun rises?" I asked, smirking.
"Are you saying that as an excuse to kiss me?" Adora asked, laughing.
"Maybe," I whispered, smirking as I leaned in. I could feel Adora's hot breath on mind as I my lips formed a thin smile.
Adora looked at me in shock before I slowly went in, wrapping my hands around her back. I softly pecked her lips, asking her but she didn't pull back. Instead she met me with a smile as I went in again, deepening the kiss with my eyes closed this time. I started sweating, not because I was nervous but because I could feel the sun beating down on my skin and I could tell Adora felt the same. Her forehead was trickling with sweat but it didn't stop us. I leaned over her, and unexpectedly she dug her hands into my hair. It was still chopped into messy layers but it didn't stop her from swooping her hands inside. She pulled me in, as I traced my finger along her face. I could feel her eyes shut gently.
"So this is what I wanted," Adora whispered in what I'm assuming was realization. I didn't say anything, instead nodding my head before digging my head into her chest.
"We will win this war, no matter what, but right now, I don't even want to think about it," Adora murmured and that's what we did.
We stayed in each other's embrace, clutching each other nothing else in the world existed. In our minds, there wasn't any chaos around us or any tension.
It was just us,
a Force Captain and Rebellion soldier
and that's all we needed
because there was nothing else.
"MY CALCULATIONS WERE CORRECT!!!"
