You were a nobody in Harkon's clan. You were practically invisible- you didn't talk to anyone, and you weren't talked to by anyone. The only time someone spoke to you was when they needed something done, which is when you'd swoop in.You were invisible, a nobody, someone who wasn't cared about. But then Serana showed up.
She walked through the doors of Castle Volikihar with another figure trailing behind her. From the build of their body it was a man; you couldn't help but feel shivers down your spine. He was most definitely a nord- a big one too.
You hid in the shadows, eavesdropping on Serana and Lord Harkon's conversation, hearing something about an Elder Scroll. The man stepped up to Lord Harkon after Serana mentioned he'd saved her. He was offered to become a vampire lord, and he accepted.
"So he's the power hungry type..."
You sank down behind the pillar you hid by. If he hurts Serana, he'll obviously die. But the moment he learns to master the power of a vampire lord, he could massacre the entire clan.
You returned to the old part of the castle, stepping out onto the balcony for some fresh air in the moonlit night. You were relaxed, until you heard an arrow whiz by. You immediately readied a life drain spell and summoned a bound sword.
Slowly, snuck down the stairs to the rocky path where you spotted two people. Unsure of who they were, kept your guard up. But as they approached, you recognized Serana and immediately put your weapons away, bowing slightly.
"Miss Serana." You greeted her. The tall man behind her scoffed.
"Get out of the way, weakling."
You sighed. "I have to ask, what are you doing here? The old wing of the castle is off limits, by request of Lord Harkon."
"Well, we have to get to my mother's old laboratory. If you'd please let us through, that'd save me the time of having to kill you." Serana said, pushing you aside.
"...I should lead you through the castle. Let me go ahead and tell the others guarding it that they can go off duty. I'll report back to you when I'm done." You we're about to go back in, but Serana spoke up.
"Why are you helping me even though you know this is wrong?" She asked.
"I'm not very fond of Lord Harkon or the other higher-ups. I'm basically just a servant, even though I was born into high power. As soon as my parents died, Lord Harkon found an opportunity to take ahold of the throne and cast me out from the rest of the royals. Besides, I'm so forgettable, most people don't remember who I am even after speaking with me multiple times. So if I help you, I won't get caught in the first place." You went into the old castle, going about and instructing the few guards and death hounds to go take a break, "by Harkon's orders".
The gargoyles were something you couldn't deal with, though. It was fine, Serana could probably fight them.
Around 15 minutes later, you returned to Serana and her companion. "The halls are cleared. If anyone asks, I wasn't involved."
Serana smiled a bit. "Thanks...what's your name?"
"That's nothing important. Now hurry before the guards come back." You ushered her and the man into the castle, happy with the peace and quiet again.
Did you really get rid of the guards?
No.
In fact, you warned them of Serana.
Serana is gullible- as her sister, you would know. When she was born, you were cast out of the family and turned into a lowly servant. Because of that, everyone forgot who you were. Then all of a sudden, Serana was taken by Valerica and locked away with an Elder Scroll. You thought you could get a chance to become apart of the family again, but your own parents didn't remember who you were.
So instead of getting rid of security, you'd gotten even more. You activated the old traps that still operated and heard the man get mutilated by one of them.
Serana, on the other hand, was left to fight the rest of the dangers herself, if she could even manage.
Revenge certainly was sweet.
And all you needed now was to get rid of Harkon and rise to power, as you were supposed to.
