Third Person POV
After the handyman left, Gun told everyone that he was going by himself to the river's edge. He announced d that he wanted to be by himself for a while.
Gun followed the path leading to the river, stopping every now and then to admire the brightly colored wings of butterflies and dragonflies as they flitted about the shrubberies on either side of the trail.
He shook his head at the thought that he had gotten attracted to the handyman. He was sure that with the handyman's good looks and attractive physique, that for sure he was not single, that he was already committed to someone else.
Gun told himself to get a grip as he reached the river's edge.
He sat down on a large smooth stone that was high enough to substitute for a child's stool. He brushed off some of the fallen leaves that were on the rock before sitting on it.
He watched the foam that would form from time to time as the waters of the river flowed strongly and would hit against some large stones jutting along its way.
Gun didn't know for how long he sat there just listening to the rhythm of the flowing waters and the intermittent sounds of crickets and other insects in the environment. It was a very peaceful and calming moment.
"Huh?" Gun was startled by a soft touch on his shoulder.
He turned around to see a very troubled face Mark standing behind him.
"P"Gun, I know that you wanted to be alone for a while," Mark began, "I apologize for interrupting your peaceful moment with nature. I really just wanted to let you know how very sorry I am for my behavior earlier. I honestly don't know what came over me. I promise you that it will never happen again. I will keep out of your way from now on. In fact, if you wish to send me packing I would most certainly comply. After all, this is your property so you have the right to send anyone away as you wish."
"I'm not sending anybody away," Gun replied. "We all came here together and we are all going back to the city together."
"Thank you so much, P'Gun," Mark said gratefully.
"I will hold you to your promise of keeping the peace while we are spending the rest of our vacation here," Gun said firmly.
"You can count on it," Mark said as his torso moved rhythmically while he was pulling his shirt over his head.
"What are you doing?" Gun asked.
"Oh, is it okay if I took a short swim in the river?" Mark asked, the smooth skin of his bare chest glistening in the sunlight.
"Oh, yeah, sure, go ahead," Gun said, somehow unable to take his eyes off a shirtless Mark.
"Don't swim too far!" Gun called out as he watched Mark swimming with the strong current of the water and being quickly washed away from Gun's sight.
Gun sat a while longer on the large stone before his stomach started to grumble, making him aware that it was time for lunch.
He stood from the stone he was sitting on and walked closer to the river and craned his neck to try to catch a glimpse of Mark.
"I told him not to swim too far away," Gun muttered a little angrily when he could not see Mark. He hoped that Mark would be back in time for lunch.
When Gun reached the house and stepped into the living room, he could smell something delicious cooking.
He walked towards the kitchen and saw Plan busily stirring something in a large frying pan while Mean was handing him some more ingredients to drop into the pan.
"I did not know that both of you were such good cooks," Gun remarked with a wide smile.
"Oh, it's only Plan that's the good cook," Mean hastened to correct Gun. "I only helped in cutting the ingredients that he needed."
"And what is it that you guys are cooking?" Gun wanted to know.
"Oh it's just a combination of roasted eggplants, okra, carrots, long beans and snow peas," Plan replied. "I also took the liberty of taking some pork chops from the freezer earlier for frying."
Gun looked at the row of fried pork chops that were laid out on a large platter on the kitchen counter.
"Just looking at them is making me so hungry already," Gun declared, patting his stomach.
"You can thank Mean for those pork chops," Plan said. "He was the one who marinated them and fried them. If they turn out to be too salty or too bland, you also have Mean to thank for it."
Mean made a face and rolled his eyes at Plan.
"You don't have faith in my cooking skills at all," he said with a pout.
"Let me set the table," Gun said, walking towards the row of kitchen cabinets to take out the plates and utensils.
Suddenly there was a loud and urgent pounding on the front door.
Everyone ran to open it. Perth and Saint were the first to reach the door.
