An exhausted Jade flops down onto the bed in her room in Cloud Tower, her hair in wild tangles and her green denim miniskirt torn at the edge. Dec appears at the gothic windowsill, shaking off a light coating of dust from his fur.
"My dear, I must warn you, one of the other Witches snuck into your quarters and putting a hair removal spell on your shampoo-"
"And a screaming hex in my books, and a snapping charm on every single pencil...I'm just gonna assume everything I've owned has been cursed at this point, Dec."
"You've certainly made yourself quite the target, allying yourself with those Fairies."
Jade sits up, making a feeble attempt to fix her hair, "I know Witches are supposed to all be about power, but...okay, I admit it, I miss having friends. I miss my sister. But why can't I have both? Why can't I be powerful and have great friends? Why do I have to choose?"
Dec hops up onto her bed, his tail swishing from side-to-side, "It's a good question, Jade. One of the great strengths of a Witch is that a Witch questions why things are the way they are. A Fairy isn't just the guardian of her planet, she's the guardian of the status quo. Keeping things just as they are. Without Witches, nothing in the Magic Dimension would change."
"For a Witch's familiar, you certainly are optimistic," Jade points out.
"Excuse me?! Do not degrade me to such a level! Think of me more as your mischievous companion."
She chuckles, "And how exactly have you been mischievous?"
His icy blue eyes light up, and he grins, "I ate the dried fish you were hiding in your potions cabinet."
Jade leaps up and rushes to her potions cabinet, "Dec! I needed that for an assignment! Now how am I supposed to conjure up the Sirens of the Infinite Ocean for divination class-"
The moment she opens the potions cabinet, she sets off a spell, a cloud of purple dust surrounds her. When it fades, Jade's forest green hair has been turned a bright violet color. Dec starts laughing hysterically, rolling over on her bed.
"Ooh! Got you good, didn't I?"
Jade grinds her teeth, checking and realizing her dried fish is still in its place. She shuts the cabinet door before turning to Dec.
"Why you little-"
Dec coils back, before jumping off of the bed to avoid Jade's wrath, "Hey now, that was one of the more harmless spells! It's not like I set that trap for you! That's not fair to blame poor little ol' me!"
Jade finally catches the cat, scooping him up with one arm and giving his head a firm noogie with the other.
"You are definitely more trouble than a regular old cat."
The black hair on his head now mussed, Dec looks up at her, "But I must say, purple is a very good color for you."
At a cafe in Magix City, Silver, Ancrua, and Jade sit at a table with their drinks. Silver has a frappuccino of intimidating size with a tower of whipped cream and sparkling star-shaped sprinkles. Ancrua and Jade's drinks are much more simple, with Ancrua nursing a cup of tea and Jade with a cup of coffee black as night.
"So what we're asking-"
"I don't know if I could do that right now," Jade explains, "every Witch at Cloud Tower is out to get me. Even if there is a hidden source of dark magic somewhere in the school, as soon as one of the other Witches realizes I'm looking for it, they're going to do everything in their power to stop me."
"They would work just as hard to stop a pair of Fairies," Ancrua points out.
Silver takes a long sip of her sugary drink, the sugar charging her up for what she's about to say, "How about we all search together?!"
Jade practically spits out her drink, "Are you kidding?! After the last time you broke into Cloud Tower?!"
"I'll admit, that was...clumsy of me. But think about it, you were able to navigate Alfea in a Fairy disguise, why can't we do the same?"
Silver twirls her finger, and her silver hair ombres into black at the ends. Her light pink makeup changes into dark metallic eyeshadow and a deep red lip. Her blue summer dress with jeans underneath turns to a black dress with ripped fishnets.
"Don't I look absolutely Witchy?" she asks, standing up to do a twirl.
Jade tries her best not to cringe, instead she puts on her best smile to encourage her sister, "I mean, you have the basic idea down, but I think a real Witch would be able to call out your bluff."
"C'mon Jade, let us help you. If every Witch in Cloud Tower is out to get you, you're gonna need all the backup you can get."
Silver's magic returns her back to her true form, and she takes her sister's hand, "We're your friends Jade, that's what friends do."
Jade looks off to the side for a moment, remembering her conversation with Dec. Silver's right, she and Ancrua are her friends, and as much as she likes being a Witch, she also likes having friends again.
"You're right. We're in this together."
Silver jumps up for joy, "Yeah! Here we come, Cloud Tower!"
"Although, I think Jade should be the one in charge of our disguises," Ancrua points out, standing up to join the sisters.
