The bell rings. Normally, I would be happy about it, but seeing as I have detention with a cranky old woman soon, I hate it. Blech.
On the way to the detention room, I think about the Halloween dance. I guess it's like Westlake's version of Homecoming or something. I personally think it's better because you can put your heart and time into a costume and wear it, and no one would look at you differently.
Collin and I decided to wear regular dance apparel. Because we're that mainstream. I guess I was kinda bummed, but it's way more convenient to me. I texted my mom about my need to find a dress on Saturday, and to say she was excited was an understatement.
I reach the detention room. It would be better if detention was hosted by Mr. Folger or another cheery teacher, but I think they deliberately chose the absolute worst teacher to teach kids a lesson. Don't do bad things or you'll end up in detention with a witch!
Opening the door, I find a small room with walls the color of bile and the smell of bitter coffee and old cologne. There's a few long, grey tables. Only three people sit at them - Lauren, a girl with a nose ring and wearing a Metallica shirt, and a guy with shaggy black hair that reminds me of Thom. The boy is shivering and has his head on the table. Oh my.
Uncertainly, I sit at the only empty table and put my bag near my leg. Mrs. Henny walks in and sits at the desk in the front. She clasps her hands together.
"You're all being punished, so no talking." She looks at us with her cruel eyes, then pulls out a Nicolas Sparks novel and starts reading.
I sit for awhile, brainstorming the perfect dance dress. It needs to be short, and red/blue/green/black. Preferably red, because that's Collin's favorite color. Eventually, I see that Mrs. Henny is so involved with her book that I pull out my phone. She won't notice.
First thing I do is text Thom.
Nichole: Do we have practice today?
Thom: Yeah, bring your guitar
Nichole: K
Next thing is texting Collin.
Nichole: Can you pick me up for practice?
He texts back almost immediately.
Collin: sure
Collin: are you allowed to be texting right now?
Nichole: no.
I get another text from Thom.
Thom: turns out I can't come to practice today, so it will just be you and your boyfriend
Nichole: how do you know about that?
Nichole: that we're dating?
Thom: honey, it was noticeable
Nichole: :P
Then the impact of what he said hits me.
Nichole: wait, so it will just be me and Collin?????
Thom: yep ^-^ I'm assuming that you would be happy right now. Just you and your cuddlebear
Nichole: no you need to be there!
Nichole: cuddlebear?
Thom: yes.
Nichole: THOM!!! YOU NEED TO BE THERE!
He doesn't respond.
So now it's gonna be just me and Collin.
Nervous is an understatement. I know I shouldn't be nervous, but just the thought really scares me. I don't know why.
Guess it's an impromptu date.

Boom. Cliffhanger!!!!!
So basically I'm using my iPhone and if there's any grammar mistakes or too much space between paragraphs, I'm sorry.
Update should be up around Thursday or Friday. I'm gonna try and fill the next chapter with lots of awkwardness and NiCollin which is the ship name for Nichole/Collin. Hopefully it will be longer. :P
Anyway, vote, comment, share this story!!!! Love y'all!!!!!!!!<3 -Emma
