Carrel POV

' Darrien it's almost six what are you still doing here you are supposed to be at home, Nona must be worried sick '. I said to Darrien hitting his arm
'Darrien?' i called, gently brushing his palm. It was like he couldn't hear me

' Darrien! ' I yelled over again like five times, but it was to no avail.
' Derrick ' I said gently. Even though he hated being called that, it usually got his attention and I ever only call him that when he was lost in thought

He turned to look at him. The expression in his eyes were changing from lost to sadness and finally to anger. ' sigh ' I saw this coming .

He stood up from the bench he was on and started walking down the street. I ran a little to catch up with him

I tried talking to him but it was like he wasn't in this world. I held his palm and stopped him. That must have brought him back

'Darrien,' I starred softly
' Darrien what's wrong you haven't been yourself lately ' I asked as we were in front of his house

'Its nothing' he said under his breathe and walked into his house

I seriously lost track of the time that went by

I walked into my house greeted my mum. It was Monday, so we were going to Nona's for dinner. This would give me a chance to talk to Darrien.
I walked into my room stripped out of my clothes took a shower and got into a sweatshirt and joggers. I ran downstairs and helped my mum carry the bowl of ice cream out of the kitchen and into Nona's kitchen.

' Darrien come down dinner is ready!' Nona yelled from the foot of the stairs but Darrien didn't respond
' I will go check on him Nona,' I said and went upstairs. I knocked on Darrien's door but he didn't answer. I opened the door slightly and slipped into the room. The lights were turned off, I walked over to the switch and turned them on, as I turned I tripped over something and hit the ground hard

'What the hell was that'I said out loud and I looked behind me it was Darrien 'how could I trip over Darrien, and he didn't even do anything to help me or break my fall, how harsh' I thought to myself

'Darrien, Nona had asked me to come call you' I said sitting up infront of him, but it was like he hadn't noticed I was here 'Earth to Darrien ' I said jokingly and then he looked at me

'yeah I'll be right there just want to freshen up' he said back. It was kinda a relief he talked back to me, but it didn't help me thinking something serious was bothering him

I went downstairs to meet everyone at the table laughing and eating as a family would
'Darrien says he would be down soon' I said with a smile on my face to join the moment. I went over to my dinner and began to eat.
Darrien came down not a long while after I came down he sat in his usual seat, the one directly in front of the counter closest to Nona's seat which was where his Mum usually sat

'So Darrien', are you getting into any after school activities' Dad asks making everyone to turn to Darrien' while they ate

'u'm, I recently joined the arts club sir ' Darrien' replied politely addressing my Dad as Sir

' what about sports, I've noticed you've not taken anyone up yet are you waiting for any particular spots to be open before you sign up' Dad asked looking directly at Darrien'

'not actually sir, I won't be signing up for any sports this year ' she replied looking up at Dad for a split second before turned my away

' and why's that, don't you know sports could actually help you open up more chances to getting into college, you could have a fully funded scholarship just by being great at a sports and with your qualifications, you could probably be a pro at either basket ball or football' Dad says placing his hands on his shoulder

' I'm actually aware of that sir, but that would only occupy the time I don't have to spare for sports sir,' Darrien says looking straight at his plate.

' then what do you have to do to improve the look fo your CV' Dad removing his hand from Darrien's shoulder and placing it on the table. By this time everyone is almost done with their dinner.

'i actually thought of getting a part time job somewhere" Darrien says. I wasn't aware of this and he always tells me when he wants to do something like this, well ususally, no only when it is really important and this right here is really important
Maybe he didn't think it would be important for me to be aware

' that would be really nice, good thing you thought of that, not much people thing about such things these days. A little experience in gotten while at a job is something that could never be taught, that's really good of you Darrien', I'm proud you don't turn out like the rest ' Dad says taking his spoon to continue his dinner

I knew what Dad meant by when he said the rest. He was obviously talking about the guys I go out with, who only know how to spend money, play video games, play football and nothing else. I always knew he had problems with them, bit he never voiced any thing out, so I just kept it in, but now he finally did

But deep down, I liked it that Dad didn't see Darrien' like every other guy.
When we were done with dinner, I happily packed all the plates into the kitchen and did the dishes much to Nona objection, but I was still persistent about it and so I did it.

We only played one round of Monopoly before we all retired to hour respective homes and rooms

Later, when i was done getting ready for bed, I knelt down beside my bed, with my wrists together, and thanked God for today's dinner and for making Dad to see something good in Darrien'.

That night I slept happily knowing Dad saw something different in Darrien' and the fact that be it was good made me even more happy.
If it were possible, I slept with a happy smile on my face.
