"So, you still didn't tell me why you are running away." I look at 'Rapunzel',waiting for her answer to my question.
She remains silent for a while, her focuse is still on the branches, trees and leaves in front of us. I mean how can her focuse not be on that, we have literally been walking down a random path in an unfamiliar forest for almost two hours now and we still haven't found somewhere to rest yet.
"It's a long story Eugie." Rapunzel's lips slowly curve into a smile.
I gasp at my new name she has given me and shoot her a sarcastic shocked look. "Oh my-- I liked Eugene more than Eugie."
"Well, get used to Eugie then. What did you think? That I'll call you Flynn Ryder?" The pretty girl bursts out laughing. I thought the name was cool and it fits hers --
"You named yourself Rapunzel first, silly. I got inspired ok ?" I smile. I don't know why, but hearing her laugh makes me so happy.
After a while of being quiet again and still following the path, Rapunzel breaks the silence.
"Forced marriage." She speaks up, keeping her head down.
"Elephant." I answer with confidence, being proud of my speed. Rapunzel looks up with a confused look on her face.
"What ?" The girl asks me, still looking puzzled.
"What do you mean by wh--- OOH-- we are not playing the game where you quickly have to find a word with the last letter of the other player's word ? I'm sorry you can continue." I get embarrassed, my face tomato-red. She'll think that I'm weird.. oh my Shakespeare. Why did I say that--
"No-- I was trying to say that I am running away from a forced marriage. What about you ? What's your deal." She giggles at my silliness and pushes back a strand of her hair.
"You're not going to believe me, but same." I answer.
"Seriously ? What a coincidence. Why you running away from it ?" She asks me, clearly interested in my story, while looking up once in a while to check if we have reached the end of the path.
"I don't know a single thing about her. I can't just marry a stranger. What about you ?"
"Same. Exactly the same reason." The girl sighs. I kind of feel bad for her. I mean we're both only 19 years old, and way too young for marriage, but it must be even scarier for her, since I doubt that she was planned to marry someone royal like me. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I've never seen a princess with such an awesome personality and so down to earth before, so she can't be one.
"I mean if she was like you, I wouldn't have even minded it, but I doubt it." I try to keep the conversation going, since I really want to know more about her.
Rapunzel blushes not knowing what to say, so I keep talking instead. "Like, I mean it. Why can't you be the girl I'm forced to marry." She doesn't respond and suddenly looks focused on something. I take it as an opportunity to talk more. "You are so pretty--"
Rapunzel holds up her finger to my mouth, signing me to be quiet. I try to listen closely and hear something. A group of people singing.
"It's coming from down there come on!!" Rapunzel yells in excitement, happy to have finally found a place to rest. She holds up a bit of her gown in one hand to prevent her from tripping and holds out her right hand for me. I hold on to it and start running down the hill, causing us to giggle.
We both stop at the bottom and try to catch our breaths, still giggling. In front of us stands a big brown wooden building, with a sign on it that says "The Snuggly Duckling".
"That looks like a 'snuggly' place to relax. Let's go inside and see what's up with the singing." Rapunzel suggests.
I nodd, grab her hand out of reflex and push down the door handle, expecting a place to relax and have some coffee in.
I knew that I was wrong when a beer bottle flew into my face the second I had opened that door.
