Chapter 28

---Rains POV---

"I can't believe I forgot my phone." I whispered to myself as I walked up to a house and knocked on the door.

"Hello?" A little boy answered the door.

"Excuse me, are your parents home?" I knelt down to match his height better.

"My mom's taking a nap and my dad's outside in the back fixing the shed." He hid slightly behind the door.

"Do you have any older siblings? I don't want to trouble your parents to borrow a phone."

"You can borrow mine. I have it right here." He held out a phone that was better then mine.

"Oh, thank you so much. I forgot my phone back in the car and my friends took off with my phone." I smiled as I started dialing my number hoping they were still in the car.

"Hello? Rains phone." I heard Luke answer.

"Luke? It's me, Rain."

"Where are you?" He asked concerned.

"I'm not too far. I had to borrow a phone from someone in the neighborhood. Just drive down the main road for a bit and take a left before you exit the neighborhood and drive all the way down. I'll be walking back on the road."

"We'll be there as soon as we can. Stay safe till we get there."

"Yeah yeah. See you soon." I hung up and handed the kid his phone. "Thank you, have a good day." I smiled and waved as I walked away and back up the road.

"That was a decent walk wasn't it?" Tomi asked as I crawled in the back seat.

"I don't care. Let's just get to the hotel and go home tomorrow. I'm sick of being here." I huffed looking out the window.

"Are you okay?" Luke reached his hand back and rested it on my knee.

"I'll be fine.. I'm just tired right now." I grabbed his hand.

"Is there anything else you wanted to do while we're here?" Tomi asked as we started driving down he road.

"No.. I don't have anything else here anymore." I sighed as I let go of Lukes hand and watched the passing trees as we drove.

The drive to the hotel was quiet and boring but the minute I laid on the bed, all I wanted to do was cry. I hid my face under the pillow and away from Luke and Tomis prying eyes.

"Rain.. are you sure you're okay?" Luke sat on the bed and started rubbing my back.

"No.. I don't want to talk about it.."

"I know you don't want to talk about it but maybe.. maybe talking will make you feel better. Not to mention you have to figure out if Renee is going to continue to stay there or not." Tomi said from the other side of the room.

"I'll deal with it tomorrow. I can't do it right now." I yelled into the mattress.

"Do you want to do anything? We could try to do something that will cheer you up and distract you for the time being." Luke moved the pillow just enough to give me some air.

"No.. I just want to lay here and be lazy till we leave... c-can I have my cuddle buddy?" I peeked out from under the pillow.

"Well scoot over and let me in." He smiled. I scooted over and out of my hiding place and laid on his chest the second he was good. I laid there thinking of the day. Has Renee really just been using me all these years? Would we be able to savage a friendship out of this?
