"썅!" (Shit) Chanhee shouts as he rips his phone away from his ear.
His best friend, Changmin, looks over to him with a concerned face, "What?"
"I can't get anyone to take my shift today, damnit." He pauses, "Fuck!"
"Dude, be quite a teacher might hear you."
"It's my seventeenth birthday, how can this be the one day I can't find someone to take my shift? Why did I even have to be called in?" Chanhee lets out a grown.
Changmin grabs Chanhee's hand and kisses the back on it, "It'll be okay, baby."
Chanhee rips his hand away and scours, Changmin laughs.
"It'll be okay, we can do something tomorrow for your birthday. Just think of today as a pre-birthday." Changmin says with a huge smile.

April twenty-sixth. The day Choi Chanhee was born, seventeen years ago today. The original plan amongst him and his best friend, Changmin, was originally to go a little food tour planned by Changmin, but the plans were smashed because Chanhee's place of work, "Uncle's Grill," called him in. Chanhee called every single one of his coworkers to see if they can take his place, they all said no, or were already working today.

"Uggggggggh." Chanhee lets out a grown in class.
"Shutup!" Changmin whispers.
He growns again.
Chanhee feels a tap on his shoulder, "Can you, like, shutup?"
He turns around and sees Kevin.
Chanhee rolls eyes and puts his head on his desk.

The day he's been looking forward to for weeks. Not just because it's his birthday, but it was the one day he would've had off work in a long while. He works many jobs so he can one day pay for his schooling. Though his parent's are relatively well-off, they wont help him pay for his schooling. This is because their parents didn't help them pay, so they want him to experience the same things they did. He hates this and has vowed to not do this for his children one day.

"Why today?" Chanhee says as he turns to Changmin.
"Please, be quiet. I know you are a math god, but I'm not so I need to actually pay attention."
"Jesus." Chanhee says as he puts his head back down.

The bell rings at three in the afternoon. Time for clubs. Chanhee is in the math club, but he often doesn't have to come because he already knows what they are covering and he usually has to work. The teacher holds him with high praise because he is such an amazing mahtlete, so she basically lets him do whatever he wants, that's why he can sleep during math class.

"Time for work?" Changmin says to Chanhee as he packs up his things.
"Uggggggggh." He lets out a huge sigh again.
"Have fun, birthday boy. See you tomorrow." Changmin says as he runs out of the room.

Chanhee packs his things and starts to head towards the grill.

"Happy birthday, New!" Uncle and Aunty shout as he enters the shop.

Uncle Seung runs the shop alongside his wife Aunty Jen. When Chanhee first began working at the shop, Aunty started calling him "New." This nickname stuck and now his name tag even says it.

"Sorry to make you come in today, but we are glad you are spending your special day with us!" Aunty says as she pulls him in for a side hug.
Chanhee smiles and hugs her.
"Our baby is growing up." Uncle says while whipping a fake tear.
Chanhee giggles and says, "I'm happy to be here with you two, you guys are like my parents."
Aunty hugs him tighter and Uncle joins in, "Ahhh." They say as they hug him tightly.

Chanhee goes to change out of his yellow uniform and into normal clothes and his apron. He loves to cook, but often just serves on the restaurant most days. He goes to look in the mirror before going back out to serve, "Ew." He says as he ties it around his waste. "Why does today have to suck?" He asks himself.

Hour five of work. Eight at night.

"Hey!" A man shouts at Chanhee, "This is not what I ordered."
"Sir," Chanhee says with a smile, "what did you order?" He asks the man.
"Dwaeji Bulgogi (Pork dish), medium rare." He pauses, "This is burnt!" He shouts.
"Sir, this is medium rare. You can tell because--"
"Shutup!" The man shouts, "Fix it! Do your job!"
"Sir, I--"

The man stands up, 6'0" tall and much larger than him, and pushes Chanhee very aggressively on the ground. The glasses he was carrying are smashed and the dishes he was carrying falls all over him and the floor. The restaurant falls silent. Chanhee lays on the ground, covered in drinks and meat. He begins to try and get up, struggling. Chanhee feels his hands held. He looks up to see who grabbed him.

"Are you okay?"
