Nobody wants their dream snatched away from them, nobody wants a pair of fake legs, and nobody wants to forgive the person that did this to them. All of this happend to me, Stacey Dowes.
I was not going to be just another girl, no. I was going to the olympics! I was going to be a runner, and beat every competiter out their, and become famous.
However, none of this was going to be, I would have a diffrent journey. Don't get me wrong, I definitely was not going to be a simple girl, it just didn't happen the way I expected.
Four weeks earlier......."Good morning grandma." I trotted down the hard wood stairs to the welcoming sight of my grandmother cooking breakfast.
"Hello Stacey, going out running again?"
"You know it grandma." I grabbed a peice of buttered toast on my way out the door, "I'll be back soon!" I call around a mouth full of toast.
I live with my grandmother. Never knew my parents, my mom died in child birth. At sixteen. And my father, well, we don't know his whereabouts. And frankly, I don't want to.
My sneakers relentlessly thrummed at the sidewalk as those angry thoughts swirled around, mixing with the cold air.
Why would he do this? Why would he abandon me? Grandma says he didn't even come to mother's funeral.
"Hey Stace!" Martha shouts as she and her bike tried to catch up with me. I slowed my pace enough for Martha to catch up.
Best friends and almost complete opposites. She has blonde hair, I have black. She has pale skin, I have olive. She has hazel eyes, I have brown. Everything else is pretty much the same. And that's what makes us almost complete opposites.
"Hi Martha." I turn my head a bit to see her, and with that glance I knew something was up. "Okay, who'd you set me up with this time?"
"What makes you think I set you up?" Martha exclaims in a mock hurt voice, "Besides, who have I EVER set you up with?"
"Hmmm, let's see, Jason, Peter, Marcus, Michel, and Thomas."
"Okay! Okay! Well it's not like a date or anything this time! As you know I am a whizz with computers," I shake my head smiling, wondering who was next to go on one date with me, " I found your dad!"
I skittered to a hault. "What?!"
"I found your dad!" Martha shoutted joyfully as she rode in circles around me. I could feel my hot anger colliding with the cold air, creating a storm of my pain.
"Why would you do that?!" I try my hardest to strangle the scream.
Shocked Martha screeches to a stop. "I thought you would love that I found your dad. " There was real hurt in her voice now.
I take a very deep breath,"I appricate what your trying to do Martha, but my dad isn't realy someone I want to get to know right now." I began to jog again with Martha at my side.
"Oh, okay." We didn't talk or even try to start a conversation, we just were together. And that's all I needed right now.
