My ears rang with an infernal beeping noise.
"Hey Stacey, are you awake?" My eyes opened slowly, Josh stood above me. I smiled and groaned.
"Where am I?" My legs ached like there was no heaven.
"You're at St. Louis hospital." Josh stood and fiddled with a small water bag hanging over my head. "You still seem stable, how do you feel?"
I groaned again. "My legs hurt like there's no peace or right in the world."
Josh snorted. "There may not be."
My face went pale and a sour climbed my throat. I twisted to my side as far as I could.
"Whoa! What are you doing-oh yea, the sleeping shot does have some side affects."
I moaned out, "Ya' think?" Josh chuckled a little.
"W-what happend to me again?" Josh's face darkend.
"I'll be back soon." He walked briskly out of the room. I watched, curious.
"Hey, that guy who just walked out of here is realy cute." I grinned.
"Martha, my best girl!"
"Stacey my best runner! Hey is that throw up?" I laughed so hard I started coughing.
"Take it easy Stace." Martha rushed to my side, gently rubbed me on the back as she babbled on about college, and how lucky I am that it's only reveiw month.
"Your grandma wants to come see you, but she's stuck at the gym with my mom." I layed back down, exausted from all the girl talk.
"I still think you should join talking club."
"Ha! No such thing!" Martha retorded, hands on her hips.
"Ha! You can be the founder!" A knock came from the doorway. It was the young policeman, and an older policeman with a scraggily man in hand cuffs. I heard Martha gasp.
"Mam." The older policeman spoke. "This is the drunk driver who hit you. And the cause of why your legs might need to be amputated."
My eyes widend in shock. "What?!"
The man in hand cuffs was shoved forward. "Look, I just wantes to say sorry. After my girlfriend died-"
"She was sizteen when she died, now you let yourself go?" The younger policeman interrupted.
The handcuffed man sighed. "No, officer, I let myself go a long time ago. Yesterday was her favorite day in the whole world."
The older and younger policemen rolled their eyes as they yanked the man away.
"MY LEGS MIGHT BE AMPUTATED!" I screamed.
"How did she find out?" Josh asked as he rushed in to calm me down.
"Her dad told her, well the cop with her dad." Martha rushed out all at once.
"Her dad, the drunk driver, came to see her!?"
"MY DAD IS THE DRUNK DRIVER?!" I just couldn't get enough of screaming these days.
The beeping noise repeated faster over and over. Martha was rushed out of the room by another doctor. Josh zipped around the room, more doctos and nurses flooded in.
I just couldn't understand. My world was turned upside down. Martha may have tracked down my dad, but he ran into me.
