11. Aftermath

I SAID I NEEDED SPACE~ CHAPTER 11:

~~Aftermath ~~

INTRO:

"Hi Mrs Peters," he says and I cringe ignoring the Mrs

"Ah yes," I say

"Everything seems to be okay, just a case of hydration and now an added bump in the head"

"My baby?" I ask instantly

"She's okay, the pediatrician is going to be with her in a few moments, I can have you wheeled to her"

AVERY Avery, Hey, hey open your eyes" I hear from a unfamiliar voice but all I can see is a black sky, and my head is throbbing

"Hey open your eyes," another voice says but I don't recognise this either

"Ouch," I say groaning, my eyes starting to flutter open

"Okay Mrs Peters can you hear me or see me," the same voice says and I open my eyes fully, where a lady in scrubs is standing over me with a flashlight, so I close them immediately

"Ouch" I repeat

"She's awake" I hear what I think is Billie exclaim

"Oh my god" I hear what I also think is Blair exclaim

I open my eyes again and try to sit up, but I am pulled down by a strong pair of arms

"Hold on Avie," the voice says and it's deep, I look up and its Grayson

"Get off me," I say trying to break free but the 2 nurses push me back down into his arms

"Hold on Ms Peters, we are just waiting for a stretcher to come down," the lady says

"Mummy" another voice screams

"Baby," I say and try to sit up again

"Ms Peters", "Avery!" and "Avie stop" is what I hear before my head begins to throb harder and I begin to cry

I feel strong arms wrap tight around me, and I inhale and it's Grayson, but instead of pushing him away, I let him hug me.

The stretcher comes and they load me on the gurney and wheel me into a room.

They take my blood and hook me up to an IV, Grayson pacing beside me, we're silent. He leaves to be with Ava leaving me alone..

This is too hard.

The doctor walks in with a smile on his face

"Hi Mrs Peters," he says and I cringe ignoring the Mrs

"Ah yes," I say

"Everything seems to be okay, just a case of hydration and now an added bump in the head"

"My baby?" I ask instantly

"She's okay, the pediatrician is going to be with her in a few moments, I can have you wheeled to her"

"Yes please," I say

"Now, you need to take it easy from now, slow down, take care of yourself," he says and I nod

"Give me a couple of minutes, and you'll be with your daughter and husband soon," he says and I weakly nod

...

"She just needs a couple of stitches," Dr Frankston says to us no more than 20 minutes later

"Is she going to feel anything?" I say and look at the baby laying on the bed, watching her iPad

"No, we will numb her chin and stitch her up!"

"What happens if you can't," Grayson says cutting in

"We will have to sedate her" he replies

"Oh, but that shouldn't happen right"

"No need to worry Avery," the doctor says and Grayson puts an arm around my shoulders

"She will be okay right"

"Yes of course"

He leaves for not long, Grayson is silent, and I sit on the bed next to Ava

The nurse comes in with all of the equipment

The process is 30 minutes but feels like 30 hours. Ava is amazing.

I sit on the bed with her in between my legs and Grayson holds her head up.

This is what our life should be like.

The nurse leaves as soon as she is done Grayson follows her

"Just a few stitches, isn't that right baby," I say and I hug her tighter, and I run my fingers through her hair "you are my tough girl"

"I got a lollypop mummy," she says and thrusts the lollypop in the air

"It's the colour pink"

"Yes, It is pink, good girl baby... can you show daddy," I say when Grayson walks into her hospital room, he's holding the files that we need to sign so we can leave

"Daddy, I got a pop its the colour pink," she says

"Oh really," he says wagging his eyebrows so she giggles

"Yes," she says waving the lollipop pop in front of his face

"Can daddy have a taste?" he asks and I smile, we are trying to teach the girls how to share properly especially since there are the 3 of them

"Of course" she replies and sticks out the lollypop for him to lick

"Mmm, yummy... can mummy have some baby," he says back and she turns to me and I taste the lollipop too

"Thank you, Ava," I say "Did you want to read your book so mummy and daddy can talk?" I ask and hand her, her favourite book

"Okay mummy," she says, taking the book, and Grayson hands me the clipboard to read.

She continues to laugh at Graysons funny faces, and I can see why I love this man

I fill out the rest of the paper and skim through it again. The nurse comes in to take it and tells us we're free to go.

My doctor also comes in to check up on me and writes me a prescription for relaxation before we are good to head off.

"Did you want to get dinner here?" Grayson suddenly asks me as I am zipping up her bag

"Ah sure" I reply

"You don't have to"

"No, no, she's happy," I say and he smiles at me

"You ready to go baby girl," he says

"Yes daddy, can we get maccies," she says grinning, and I am so glad she is better

"We can get whatever you would like baby," he says and I follow them out of the little room waving to the nurses

I quickly call Blair and Billie, and they are fine with keeping the girls for tonight and tomorrow night, just because we don't know how Ava is going to be. I haven't talked to Grayson yet, but I am sure we are going to figure something out.

"Avie... hey Avie," he says snapping me out of my thoughts and I haven't noticed that we are at McDonald's

"Sorry, what were you saying?"

"What do you want mummy?" Ava asks and I smile at her answering with my order
