Chapter Seven: Promise Date

Zayn POV

It’s been about a week since the whole fire thing and a couple days since I found Lexi. She was still in the hospital in a coma and the doctors said it wasn’t looking too good. I really didn’t want to leave her side but I knew I had to take Lea home since she was fine. The lads and I decided to get our own flats instead of being together. It was a hard decision but we all needed some space from each other.

Lea was currently in my lap while Niall was in the kitchen. Niall had moved in with me being that he doesn’t like being on his own. Louis and Harry moved in together which left Liam to move in with Dani. She was currently on tour with LMFAO dancing her little ass off. She was perfect for Liam but we all knew that Dani was fit. It was hard not watching her move her hips while she was on stage. We all thought about it.

“How ya feelin’,” Niall asked as he sat down on our black couch. I shrugged and continued to feed Lea. He sighed. “I know you miss her; we all do.”

“I’m pretty sure Liam doesn’t miss her,” I scoffed.

“You know how he is. He’s just being protective like he always is.”

“And that’s the problem.”

He looked up at me. “What do you mean?”

“I mean, how many times has Liam bailed us out of something? In the beginning, I thought it was fun to have someone take the fall for my mistakes or put me in line. Now, since I have Lea, I don’t see that as a need anymore. If I’m old enough to have a sex that leads to having Lea, then I’m old enough to take care of myself.”

He closed his eyes and nodded his head, slightly chuckling. “You know, I like this new Zayn. If you asked him this a couple months ago, he would just laugh and look for the next bird to come around. It’s a nice change.” He opened his eyes and staring at my light brown ones. For being a carefree mofo, Niall can have his serious moments even though those were rare. That’s what makes me cherish them more.

I smiled. “What happened to my carefree Nialler,” I joked.

He smiled. “Easy, you had Lea.” We looked at her at the same time. Her eyes were slowly closing as she was still sucking on her bottle. “She changed all of us but in a good way. I can’t imagine life without her anymore. I can’t even think about that. When we heard about the fire, my whole world came crashing down and I knew if I felt that way, that you must’ve felt worse; the same thing with Lexi too. She’s changing you in so many ways but I like this change. She’s keeping a strong rein on you, Malik.”

I sat Lea up so I could pat her back so she would burp. “It’s that obvious?” He nodded. “Of course it is.”

“Don’t worry; if I had a girlfriend as good as Lexi, I would change too. People don’t believe me when I say this but I’m kind of glad that I’m single. Of course it would be nice to have some pretty bird that I could kiss whenever I wanted and show the world that she was mine but I kind of like the freedom and not having the feeling of leaving someone I love while I go on tour.”
