Chapter Eight: She’s Not Afraid
Lexi POV
I was finally out of that hell hole of a hospital. Of course I’m thankful that they saved me and everything but being locked up in that white room was going to drive me crazy. There was no doubt in my mind that we couldn’t go back home; the house was burnt to the ground. We were either going to a hotel or some new house that Zayn had bought with the amount of money he had.
His one hand gripped the steering wheel as his other was holding mine. His thumb made circles on the back of my hand, trying to sooth me. I was still a little bit scarred from what went on with Ronnie and thankfully Zayn knew this. He wasn’t trying to hurt me in any way, just trying to help me get back to how I was.
His velvet voice broke the silence of the car ride. “I have something to tell you.” Something about those words made me on edge and scared. Maybe he was like Ronnie; maybe he did want to hurt me in some way. His head turned to face mine, and I quickly looked away, getting ready for the blow. “I made an appointment for you.”
That caught me off guard. “You… what?”
His eyes went back to the road. “I made an appointment for you at the hospital.”
“For what,” I asked, not knowing whether to be afraid or not.
“You remember how you told me about your ears?” I nodded, not knowing where he was going with this. “Well, I made an appointment for you to get them; I’m paying for everything.” My mouth hung open as I hit his arm. “Lexi, I’m driving!”
“What the hell, Zayn?! I told you I was going to pay for them!”
“I’m sorry but I knew you wouldn’t be able to afford the ones you need.” I held the bridge of my nose. “Please don’t be mad at me.”
I knew that he was only doing it just to be kind and in a way, I knew he was right; I wouldn’t be able to afford them even after I die. I took a deep breath before answering. “That’s the last thing you’re buying for me.”
He scoffed. “Yeah right.”
“Zayn, I’m serious.”
He turned to look at me since we were at a stoplight. “I’m not just going to throw away my mum’s teachings on how to treat a lady, Lexi. Not even for you. If you need something, I’m going to buy it for you; tampons, pads, you name it. I’m going to get it for you.”
I couldn’t suppress the smile that was forming on my lips as he said those words. He was truly a gentlemen and if that didn’t tell me that he wasn’t going to harm me, then there’s something wrong with my brain. He leaned over and kissed my temple before driving the rest of the way home.
“Wow,” I said as I stepped out of the car. The house was truly breathtaking and amazing. The front lawn was lined with flowers going up the walkway. Tan steps led up to the light brown wooden door that was opening, revealing Niall eating food and Harry holding Lea who had a huge smile on her face as she saw me. I did what my legs told me to do; I ran to her.
I opened my arms and she gladly came into mine, clutching close to my body. I haven’t seen her since the fight and I’m not sure if Zayn took her to see me in the hospital. I surely hoped not as I didn’t want her to ever see me like that. She pulled away slightly to plant a kiss on my cheek and I just smiled as tears ran down my face. Niall helped me inside as Zayn and Harry carried my flowers and stuff up to what I’m guessing was my room.
