Chapter Four: Haunted

“Zayn?” Liam knocked on my open door the next morning. I have been awake for a while I just didn’t feel like getting up yet. Lea was still sound asleep. She got up in the middle of the night but all she needed was to be changed. That was a challenge on my own but I got it.

“Yes Liam?”

He came in and closed the door behind him. He then walked over and sat on the end of the bed. “Would you like to tell me what happened last night?”

“What all do you want to know?”

“I think I should know all of it, starting back with Kayla.”

I sighed, knowing that I would have to tell him everything. I mean, I can go to Liam for anything and he knows he can come to me for the same thing. When Liam wants to know something, he doesn’t hesitate to get what he wants out of you. It has always been that way with him. So, I told him the whole story, from the time I met Kayla up to when I met Lexi. I could feel the tears threatening to fall out of the corner of my eyes at the sound of Kayla’s name rolling off my tongue. I really cared about her and now I can’t take anything back.

He nodded his head, taking everything in. When I was finished, he sat there in silence. I was getting nervous as to what he was thinking. Liam wasn’t the type of person that’s easy to read. That’s one thing I hated about him. But I guess we were even since all the lads tell me I’m not easy to read either.

After a few moments, Liam finally spoke. “You really loved Kayla…” I nodded my head. “Then why did it take you this long to realize it.”

“I…I don’t know. I just….” I ran my hand through my non gelled hair.

“I think you only say you love her because of the guilt you feel.”

My head snapped up to look at him. “What do you mean?”

“You feel guilty about everything that was said to her by you. She’s not helping by staying here and popping up here and there. But I don’t know, maybe you did love her but I don’t think you’re in love with her.” I took his words in consideration. Maybe that was what I was feeling. “And the thing about Lexi is, you picked her up because she does look like Kayla in some way. I’m not going to deny something that’s true. It’s great and all that you want to help her but don’t keep her here just because you think it’s going to help Kayla when it’s not. You have other things to worry about right now and I don’t think another girl fits into the picture.”

“If I let her leave, she’s just going to go back onto the streets.”

“I’m not saying she can’t stay here for right now. All I’m saying is that I wouldn’t get to close to her right now.” I nodded my head, taking in his words. Liam might be a lot of things but when it came to something like this, he was never wrong. “Now come on. We need to get some food in you.”

“I’ll wait till Lea gets up.” He just nodded his head and walked out of my room. I scrunched up the sheets in my fists, feeling cold all of a sudden. She was here.

“I know you’re here.”

‘Why did you lie to me?’ I could hear her, I just couldn’t see her.

“It would be a lot easier if I could see you too.”

‘Answer me first.” Her voice was shaky. She’s been crying.

“I didn’t lie to you.”

‘You certainly didn’t tell me the truth.’
