Chapter 9
“Rise and shine, honey!” Danielle felt the sunlight seeping through the curtains as she heard a warm voice filling her room.
“Morning, mom,” she greeted her mom, who brought in a tray of hot chocolate along mint chocolate chip cookies for breakfast.
“Ah, breakfast in bed. Anything special, mom?” Her dainty hands neared the mug just to be swatted away by her mom with a reminder to brush her teeth before eating anything.
Danielle made a mad dash to her bathroom just so she could get her hands on the delicious homemade mint chocolate chip cookies. Anything related to mint chocolate chip has always been her weakness and Danielle knew that there was something that her mom was hiding from her. Her mom isn’t crazy enough to bring her breakfast in bed if she’s not expecting something from Danielle.
The last time her mom did that was to convince the twins and her to move to Rhode Island without her.
‘I wonder what would mom want to tell me this time,’ she wondered, grabbing a face towel and wiping her face.
Danielle walked out of the bathroom and despite those heavenly delight splayed right in front of her eyes was tempting the living daylights out of her, she controlled her urge to eat it and looked up at her mother, asking what’s wrong this time.
“You’re being exceptionally nice, mom. What’s wrong with you today? Is there something you want from me?”
“Uh, yes. Regarding that matter, I was gonna talk about it after you finish your breakfast but since you insist on knowing it right now, I’ll tell you.”
Just then, Danielle noticed a small blush creeping up her mom’s cheeks as she fiddled with the hem of her shirt. Danielle chuckled and told herself that it’s something she inherited from her mother.
“Quick, mom. I don’t have all day here,” Danielle whined.
“Yes, about that, Danielle. How do I say it? Well, technically, this guy asked me out on a date,” Allison mumbled, looking down at the quilt covers, its designs suddenly seeming more appealing to her.
“NO WAY!” Danielle yelped, just to be glared at.
“Yes way. This is the first time that I’m going out on a date after the death of your father and I feel nervous.”
“You know what, mom? Don’t worry about us. Have fun since you’ve been depriving yourself of a love life since the death of father and newsflash, we can actually take care of ourselves right now. If that’s what has been bugging you all along,” Danielle advised her mother before taking a cookie from the plate.
