Song of the chapter: None. Sorry but nothing fit lolllll. Also if you're enjoying the book please vote it would mean a lot to me!
We had followed a long, wide, hallway into a dining room that was not unlike the entrance hall. Giant, decorated like a god was going to move in, lots of silver and black, utterly terrifying.
I wondered how they could possibly have so much in a world with so little. A world plagued by a villain so real yet so terrible it seems almost fictional. The again- they worked for him so they probably had the best of the best set aside for them
I tried to just let myself be stunned by the decorum but found myself wanting to steal it all and give it to worthier people. I shook these thoughts out of my head, causing a bit of a panic from Draco who saw my small movement and thought I was trying to send him some sort of signal. I almost laughed but refrained.
We sat down at a long table that hardly filled a third of the room. Draco was placed across from me, his mother and father at each end.
Draco gave my hand a nervous squeeze as he let it go, I immediately felt chilled and even more terrified then before.
As a maid, dressed in a stereotypical black dress and white apron, brought out the first course and champagne, Narcissa began on a flow of questions for me.
"Where are you from Evangeline?"
Whales, I'd answered.
"What do your parents do Evangeline?"
They were veterinarians, I told her. Although I haven't seen them in years.
"When did you and Draco meet Evangeline?"
First year I suppose.
She seemed almost content with my answers, although finding out I was muggle-born certainly gave her a shock.
Draco tried, in vain, to shift the conversation away from me but his mother persisted.
"How long are you planning on staying with us Evangeline?" she asked.
I glanced at Draco.
"As long as I stay mother," Draco told her. She nodded and turned her eyes down towards her meal.
I did the same, hoping it would be disgusting so that I wouldn't feel quite so bad about eating in the house of multiple Death Eaters. To my discontent it was amazing. I couldn't find a single fault in the warm soups, the crisp salads, the toasted bread loaves, any of it.
I'd never had champagne before so I brought it to my lips hesitantly. As soon as the sunny liquid hit my tongue I felt the bubbles explode. My body eased just a bit and I took another sip. It was heaven.
"Champagne was actually invented by a wizard, did you know? Quite a smart man according to my family. Somewhere far back on my line of grandfathers and great-grandfathers I had one who knew him personally." Lucius mentioned halfway through the dessert course.
I wasn't sure how to answer this so I took another sip as if contemplating what he said.
"Well I think it's delicious! Thank you," I said kindly.
Apparently this wasn't the correct answer because Lucius gave me a glance that was sharp as knives. Why was I overthinking everything I said and did? I was normally confident around everyone.
When Draco and I were finally allowed out of the dining room I let my tense shoulders relaxed which would've caused a muscle spasm if it'd been held for any longer.
"I'm so so so sorry Angel," Draco whispered into my ear as we made our way up the stairs.
"What are you talking about? That was- fun," I tried to lie but Draco only laughed and kissed my forehead.
