𝟙𝟝. Things Are Going Back to Normal

Y/n POV

We have been in this log cabin for about two weeks now. It isn't bad at all, there was plenty of canned foods that has been able to last us.

Tom and I were just sitting and chatting in the kitchen when we heard the front door open. It was pau.

"Where is poppy?" He suddenly asked, as he looked worried. My eyes widened a little as this was pretty sudden. "Um... Pau..." I said quietly and soon patted a seat next to me for him to come sit.

Pau comes over and sits down as he looked at me worried. I took a breath and sighed. "Pau... she.. she passed.." I told him quietly. I saw his eyes widened, "w-what..? W-wait.. when..?!" He asked me as I can already see his fears flooding through. "Before we did that plan poppy said to help us escape... Tord.. he shot her.. he knew about her betrayal with Tom years ago and her trying to help us now.. I tried to help her.. I really did but.. I didn't have enough time.." I told him quietly. I saw him put his hands over his face and cry. I can tell how heart broken he was. "I'm  so very sorry Pau..." I spoke quietly. I softly rub his back to comfort him. "Do you still have those things I gave you..?" I asked him.

"Y-yes.." I heard him wimped out. "Take them out for me.." I told him. He did what I told him to do and he realized what the stuff was.

"She gave me this before she passed... she told me to give it to you.." I told him. I pointed to the ring, "she said to remind you of this ring.. how you gave it to her when you two were just kids and it was a promise ring to her?" I said to him. Trying to lighten the mood. I saw his eyes widened a little. "She kept it.." he said quietly. I saw him wiping his tears and holding the ring. Soon putting that ring on one of his fingers. "Before she passed.. she told me also to tell you how much she loved you... she loved you so very much Pau.." I told him quietly. I saw him run his hand through his hair staring at the photos now. "She told me she wanted you to keep these safe for her.." I said pointing to the two photos.

I saw him stare at the photos and ring. He was still crying but more quietly. "Out of all people... why her.." he mumbled soon looking down and using a hand to cover his eyes and cry. I rubbed his back slowly to try and comfort him and Tom I guess made him some coffee. "Pau.. I also want to say thank you... thank you so much for helping us.. I wish I can thank poppy too... without you two and your friend, we would have still been there.." I said softly and gave him a tight hug.

I felt him hug me back. "Thank you too..." he says softly to me. I stayed in the hug for a bit as he calmed down from crying. He still was very upset through.

"So Pau... what went on after we got here..?" I heard Tom ask. "Well.. most of the base burned down, everyone was able to make it out but the water sprinklers calmed down the fire before it took down the whole base. They are working on fixing it but for now we are using our emergency base while we wait until it's fixed.. Tord did made it out but he hasn't said anything about getting you back Tom.. I think he has given up.." Pau said. I felt relieved hearing that. "Well.. that's better then nothing" I said softly. "Yeah... but he's been really quiet so I'm no so sure what he is thinking" Pau says. "He is just mad he didn't win." Tom said as he made himself some coffee. "Yeah probably" Pau says and chuckled. He then sighed after and ran his hand through his hair.

"I thought poppy would have been here.." Pau says. I could tell he was holding back his tears. "But... it's ok... she was a very strong women and fought until the end.." Pau sighs softly. He picked up the coffee Tom made him and drinks some of it. "Yeah.. but hey.. tom and I would always be here for you.. after everything you did for us, we are always here for your favor" I said to him giving him a soft smile. He sniffed and smiled back a bit looking down. "Thank you y/n.." he says taking another sip.

"So you two.. how are things going to go out? You two can stay here as long as you need, I am not here as often so it's nice that it's being used" Pau told us. "Well, we were planning on going back to our home but may have to search for a new house incase 'you know who' comes for us again. Just to be extra safe, ya'know?" Tom says to him. Pau nodded and rubs his arm, "I hope things go well.. I just pray now Tord doesn't catch onto Pat and I. If he already knew about poppy I don't know what he knows about us." Pau says, "but again, I know he wouldn't do anything because no one else is like Pat and I" Pau chuckled out softly. I saw him look back at his hand at the ring. Slightly playing and moving it side to side with his thumb.

"I still can't believe she's gone... I am probably going to make a proper resting place for her around here. This house actually used to be a old playhouse. Of course it's not the same but I got his house built for the both of us so we could always be in our favorite spot in the woods" Pau chuckled. I smiled hearing that, "that is very sweet.. she'll always be here with you and watching over you" I said to him and he nodded. "Someday we'll meet again, someday" he says as he got up.

"I guess I'll get going. I just came to check in on you two and such" Pau says to us. "Oh no problem, it was nice seeing you pau, thank you for everything again" tom says as he made his way around the counter to give him a hug. "Anytime tom, anytime" Pau says hugging back and soon let go.

We said our goodbyes and both Tom and I go to sit on the couch together.

"I love you y/n... I am so sorry you had to go through the things you did..." Tom said to me and I felt him softly rub my side. I lean into his touch letting out a relaxed sigh. "Don't be sorry Tom.. it wasn't your fault ok?" I said to him softly as I cuddled up close to him. "Just be glad it's over.. we can pretend this never happened and we can go back to living our normal life" I said to him softly. I felt him pull me over, turn me around and sit on his lap. He hugged me close to him and I relaxed into him, leaning my weight into him. "Deal" he says as he mumbled into my shoulder. I wrapped my arms around his neck and cuddled with him.

I felt myself feel heavier as I started to feel sleepy. Being so relaxed and comfortable just made me want to fall asleep, and that's what I eventually did.

Finally Tom and I can be worry free. Instead of remembering this in a negative way, I like to think of it as something we both learned from.

I learned more about Tom and Tom learned more about me. Or all we just got closer and understood more.

I can't wait to go home.

I really apologize for this final chapter to be published so late. I just had a rough time with school and over all just couldn't be on wattpad for how much I needed to focus.

(Also a little sorry note, sorry that this chapter is short. I honestly didn't want to push this chapter to be too long as it's finally the end you know?)
