"What happened to you?"
Sean asks.
"What do you mean?" I know what he was asking about. I just needed time to think about how I'm going to have this conversation. "You looked different than back in 2016, healthier, happier. I just want to know." He repeated respectfully. A small frown plasters on my face before I start to speak. "My dad passed away that year, and it broke me. Mom never wanted anything with us and blamed my brother because of his condition."
I went back to that night of my father's burial. The explosive scream fight mom and I had over dealing with grief. Severus would covers his ears yelling at us to stop.
"After that I would steal her car and go out joyriding. I'd go to parties sometimes everyday for an entire summer. I've done so many drugs, not like coke or anything severe like that, but stuff like Xanax and PCP. But I stopped all that after I found out Severus would be injured and I didn't know at the time that mom would beat him."
I looked at Sean for a reaction and he seemed really upset. I bet 60% of it is at the substance abuse, I saw how he reacted to me the other day. I know he despises it. "So I kinda physically fought my mother and we took it to court. I got emancipated at 16, got my own place and now I visit Severus at least once a week."
The speech finishes just as I take a sip of my drink. "Please don't ever do that again, (Y/n). Drugs or crazy shit like the other day. I'm sorry for your loss, but you dont have any reason now to act out. Especially now." Sean replied after a moment of absorbing this information. "I know Sean, I promise I won't. I was lost before...I'm happy now."
I laid my head on his shoulder making him wrap his arm around me. He opens his camera and stretches his arm. I smiled without showing teeth, cuddled up to him. He takes one then kisses my temple and snaps another. "You're posting that?"
"Yes," He writes a caption for it and posts it on IG. The internet is about to blow. "Hey you want to do one last game before we go?"
"Sure, Jack."
We walked to a carnival game that involved us shooting glass bottles. "Step right up Mr and miss, which prize are you going for." The carnival guy points with his cane at the massive elephant astronaut hanging above. "That one," Sean smirked and began to shoot the bottles moving around.
I watched every bullet hit, eyebrows almost stuck in my hair by how insane his shooting skills are. The level of difficulty raised every time he gambled to keep going for the ultimate prize. "Are you sure you want to keep going? Miss and you'll lose it all."
"I'm going for it."
Since Sean posted us on social media its time I make my dms flood. I start to record him shooting the bottles then him, zooming in on his focused expression. Then all lights on the stand go insane after he hit the final bottle. "Congratulations! Here's your prize."
Sean grabbed the elephant that is twice his size. "This for you, dearest."
I laughed at the song edit of choice, Make You Mine I added. The comments and likes were rising like crazy. Jack's picture captioned 'Celestéye? I think YES' has reached 1.7 million likes and 200k comments. Holy fuck they're coming for it.
A week later, I was riding an elevator up to a the final floor of a skyscraper. There's a giant Jenga competition held here, $15,000 for 1st, $10,000 for 2nd, $5,000 for 3rd place.
I want that first place. "Hey there, are you (Y/n)?" Some guy with a glass of champagne asked. "Yes that's me.""Come on then. You start here." He places me next to a table that had a beautiful marble Jenga tower. "Holy shit," I say. Another woman came up to me holding a Bailey's bottle and pored shots around. "I'll pass, thank you." I stared at the delicious smelling liquid. I pick one only and chug it, thats it.
My oponent was soon placed a cross from me and it was a girl too. "Hi, goodluck." She tells me so I return the favor and say the same. "The rules are: when its your turn, the other person must stand outside of the circle. You cannot speak or lend a helping hand blah blah." Their voice echoed into the distance.
My focus was mainly on the tower. The announcer gives us a penny for us to throw. "Call it in the air."
"Tails," I call out. It landed on heads, so I dont start.
For the first few turns I stood outside the circle so my opponent could walk around the tower as she needed too. As it was my turn I made sure I did not shake or breath to hard. I poked and pokedand wiggled those slabs like my life depended on it.
For a while my heart would collapse at the sound of towers falling apart. People would scream. I dont know how long I was playing but my tower was so tall and leaning so bad I single breath could tip it over.
"Looks like one more block and it's OVER." The announcers says.
All eyes were on my competition. The girl actually fucking managed to pull out a block and place it. "Wuuut," I say to myself nearly pulling my hair. "Best of luck," she whispered. I circled the Jenga tower, trying to figure what I'm going to do. I'm going to lose. But then I saw the base and its completely intact.
I'm going for it, I start to poke gently. Then it happened, my phone buzzed in my pocket which startled me. "NO FUCKING NO," I pull my hair as the tower collapses. "FUCK," I cussed though shook my opponents hand.
I checked my notifications to see who the fuck texted me. Of course it had to be my four leaf clover so I opened the photo attached to the text. It was him and Severus on the street. It gave me relief to see he was okay.
"Second place, (Y/n) aka Celesté." The crowd applauded for me as I was given a medal and a check for the prize money. "And your Jenga champion, Jenna Casso!"
My jaw dropped at the literal gold Jenga trophy that was given to her. I applaused out of shocked and honestly a little bit of happiness. That should have been me.
It was really late when I got out that competition, Sean had told me he wanted me to show up at his hotel. So I did, it was one these uptight hotels that wont let you use the elevator if you dont have a room card. Sean didn't want to answer the phone because he was probably asleep. Though the desk had to call up to Sean's room and confirm sh*t until finally they let me go up.
9th floor came up so I walked out looking for room 127. I knocked on his door for a couples seconds then he answers it. "Helloo," I immediately hug him. I could say he did hug me back but it was weak as hell.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm alright, I was sleeping.."
No wonder his eyes are puffy like he's been crying. His do fingers intertwined with mine as he shut the door and walked me to his bed. This is a cute hotel room right, but under this man-kid is a mess. "Haha before you call me out, I haven't had time to clean up after myself."
"Sure sure. Why did you call me here?"
"Well I wanted to watch Avatar with you a couple hours ago. Obviously sandman cuddled me and yeah.." He sits on the edge of the bed and looks up at me.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think the competition would be that long. You look dead, just go to sleep."
"Don't go," he traps me in a hug that only leaves me cupping his head. I do have off tomorrow so why not. I pick up his head so our noses could touch. "Okay," I say in a low voice before kissing him twice.
I cuddle up under the blanket, completely rubbing my body like a dog in mud at the co fort of the sheets. Sean then laid on his back so I just almost got on top of him to cuddle. His arm rested under my body and wrapped around me. Before I went to sleep I give him a gentle silent kiss on the cheek, "I love you."
"I love you too."
"No I love you more," I whispered back but he shushed me by grabbing my face and planting a fat kiss on the lips. Okay I'll let him win this time.
