Jikari quietly sat at his desk, humming softly as he frantically wrote small adjustments on his business. He never quite understood how to make his business absolutely perfect, but he tried. He tried so hard to perfect it. Jikari would spend hours upon hours, most of the time days, sometimes flowing into weeks, taking in criticism and adjusting things. He was so incredibly focused on his work that it's all that occupied his thoughts.
Normally, this wouldn't be an issue for Jikari, it's how he grew up, he's somewhat of a perfectionist and a workaholic when it came to his business. However it only became an issue that he constantly threw himself into his work when it came to his boyfriend. Sure, we're his tendencies good in any sense? Not really, yes he had an end goal and was working toward it, however he would often end up neglecting important things he needed, namely sleep.
Although it didn't matter as much, he never really got sleep, mostly running on caffeine. He would often neglect meals, such as breakfast or a proper dinner, however he always ate a decent amount for lunch. Or at least made enough for a decent lunch, he never ate the full amount as it normally sat next to his notes, waiting to be eaten.
His behaviors normally didn't bother Edith, his boyfriend at the time, he was used to Jikaris obsessive tendencies about his business. What mostly bothered him was the difference he saw in Jikari, in high school, when he met jikari, Jikari tended to be a loner, constantly quite anxious. Although despite his anxious nature, Edith and him got along rather well, after getting to know one another. They tended to bicker back and forth when they first met, obviously lightheartedly, but it was still bickering. They picked at one another, Edith teased jikari about his tendency to become flustered quite quickly, and jikari teased Edith about his attitude. Not necessarily people most people would see dating.
Edith was described as rather odd and ominous, coming off as snarky and rude, spending most of his time participating in generally criminal activities, like underage smoking, vandalism, small things like that, Jikari on the other hand, was quite school-oriented, constantly seen in the library, throwing himself into learning anything and everything about business. He had little to no social skills, and was known to have a bit of a temper, although he never really talked to anyone enough to show it off.
Despite their obvious differences within their personality, they got along incredibly well, and surprisingly fast. Often seen laughing with one another, which was rather odd, with jikari having a reputation of not generally liking jokes, finding them pointless and annoying. Once they become friends, to people around them that they were seemingly soulmates, platonically or romantically. They seemed to have a mutual understanding of one another, and saw each other as equals. Jikari and Edith seemed to be attached at the hip, always wanting to be with one another, so they were.
Neither of the boys were known for being particularly affectionate, unless you consider jikari slamming a small boy's face into a table, for the reason, 'he wouldn't shut up' or 'he was being annoying,' affectionate.' But they were openly affectionate with one another, typically seen holding hands or with Edith asleep on jikaris shoulder. Jikari never really seemed to be the type to date, and frankly he never was, but the same went for Edith, so it worked out. The boys' relationship started off quite strong, they slowly fell for one another, although they never really officially confessed, they allowed their relationship to grow into dating.
They both quite clearly were in love, and they always felt happier around the other, however things slowly began to change. As they continued to grow alongside one another, jikari slowly threw himself more and more into his work, slowly growing away from Edith. Although jikari never seemed to notice a difference between them in high school and now, well he at least never really acknowledged how different they were.
Edith began to feel constantly ignored by his boyfriend, he never understood why he spent so long sitting at his desk and muttering to himself. Anytime Edith tried to ask jikari about why he spent so long working, he would get a 'I'm working to keep us financially stable.' Which Edith never really understood, he lived most of his life without worrying about his finances, so why worry now? Jikari on the other hand, grew up constantly worrying about it, his parents taught him to worry about money, constantly.
He never fully explained why he worked so hard and for so long, so it seems to leave Edith in the dark. There was an overwhelming sense of losing his best friend and lover, it genuinely took a huge toll on the boy. Having to watch his soulmate slowly begin to lose himself, and slowly begin to stop talking to him, it was so incredibly overwhelming. Although jikari was blissfully unaware, it felt like jikari hated him.
To Edith, it seemed like he watched his boyfriend fall in love with him, and after getting to know every detail about him, beginning to hate him. Being completely and totally vulnerable with someone after years of avoiding everyone, and watching them begin to hate you? There was a sense of fear and hatred towards jikari. He couldn't process jikaris thought process, he never explained it to him, why was he avoiding him? Why was he ignoring him? Why would you spend days upon days ignoring someone's existence unless you hated them to their very core.
