Jikari felt his heart race.

Edith? In the hospital.

Jikari quickly became overwhelmed with questions, is he okay? what happened? Which hospital?

He felt himself get up and just start running. He *had* to see Edith.

Eventually, after talking to the nurses, thankfully without breaking down into tears, he found out where Edith was.

He walked along the halls, running his hand through his hair, hoping to calm himself down. He didn't want to overwhelm Edith when he saw him. He knew Edith was hurt, the thought made jikari so incredibly worried.

Why wasn't he there then? Why wasn't jikari with him? How could jikari have failed Edith like that?

He could have lost Edith.

He reached edith's room, he had noticed he had started shaking when he raised his hand to open the door.

Walking inside he saw him, there Edith was.

He was sat up, in a hospital gown, looking out the window.

He looked at peace. He looked calm.

Seeing him, jikari felt tears prickle in his eyes, fuck he couldn't cry, not now.

"Edith?" His voice was soft, he didn't want to risk anything, so he tried to remain as calm and collected as possible.

Edith turned, his bangs not in his face, instead brushed to the side. "Hi?"

Jikari ignored the odd feeling in his chest, he knew something was off, but assumed it was just the fact they were in the hospital.

He walked over towards the bed, "I'm so happy to see you're okay."

"Who're you?"

Jikari swore he felt his heart drop.

His face fell blank, his mouth hung open slightly. His heart began to race, he quickly became overwhelmed with emotions.

"I— I'm jikari, jikari okane— are— are you alright?"

"Yeah? Why wouldn't I be?"

He seemed cold. Distant.

Almost like when Jikari met him.

*just like when jikari met him.*

"You— you're in the hospital e."

"Wow, you're observant."

Needless to say, jikari didn't expect this.

He didn't miss this.

"I— uhm— excuse me—"

"You're excused."

Jikari tensed, he didn't miss this. He didn't like this.

He walked away from the bed, thankful Edith couldn't see his face.

He walked out into the hall, making sure the door closed quietly.

Immediately upon getting out of edith's line of sight he fell to the floor. He sat up against the wall, his face buried in his knees. He didn't understand what was happening.

Why couldn't Edith remember him?

He quietly began to cry into his knees, not even trying to hide it from the people wandering the halls.

He started pulling at his hair, panicking, tugging at it.

God. He couldn't do this, not now.

Jikari took in a deep breath, trying to calm himself down in the moment. Slowly he took his hands out of his hair, noticing how sweaty his palms were.

He stumbled slightly to his feet, trying to remain calm, he ignored how his mind was racing and the pit in his stomach.

Jikari opened the door once again, walking back into ediths hospital room. "Uhm— sorry for that, had to do something." He kept his head down slightly, hoping Edith wouldn't acknowledge the clear redness of his eyes.

"You had to cry?" Edith snorted, not seeing any significance or reason for Jikari to be crying at that moment.

Jikari tensed at Edith's words, falling silent for a while. He felt tears prickle in his eyes, but blinked them away quickly. "U-uhm... yeah, i did." Jikari thought for a while, trying to figure out what to say. "Do... do you remember anything?"

"Not that it's any of your business, but no I don't." Edith looked over towards the taller boy, wondering why he was acting so odd. Jikari seemed to be genuinely upset, not that Edith cared, but it was weird to him.

Why was Jikari crying? Why even was he there? Why was he so frantic and concerned, the feeling made Edith almost uncomfortable.

Jikari continued to fall into moments of silence, he kept collecting his thoughts and trying to understand what was going on. He moved closer towards Edith, more standing next to Edith then opposed to at the end of his bed.

"Uhm... before your— uhm accident,"

At the mention of Edith's accident, jikari seemed to become a lot more... sad? In a way, Edith almost felt bad for jikari, jikari seemed to genuinely care for Edith, but regardless edith still didn't exactly feel bad. Less sympathetic, more pity, towards the black haired male.

"we were together— like boyfriends." Jikaris face seemed to shift from uncomfortably sad, to almost blank.

Edith blinked a bit, before bursting into a small fit of laughter, "You're kidding right? You and me? Dating? You have to be lying."

Needless to say, Edith wasn't taking Jikari seriously in any sense. The idea of Edith dating anyone would make him laugh, let alone this stranger next to him in the hospital.

"Uhm no... I wasn't." Jikari seemed to become serious, probably getting frustrated. Which wasn't really concerning for Edith, especially considering Edith forgot about jikaris problem with expressing his frustration. "I wouldn't lie to you E."

"E?" Edith questioned, continuing to laugh, "What is that? Your little nickname for me?"

Edith noticed how Jikari clenched his one of his fists, not understanding why he did so. But again, he didn't exactly care.

"Yeah— you've told me you like it." He fell silent again, but pulled out his phone, scrolling quickly through it before quietly handing it to Edith. "Scroll through the photos."

Scrolling through the photos, it was clear the images were him and jikari, well and possums, but Edith ignored those. Some of the photos consisted of Edith holding Jikaris phone close to his face, not his best angle. There were a few with Edith asleep on jikaris shoulder, they both looked happy in them.

He looked up at Jikari, confused, and handed the phone back. "I'd appreciate it if you left." He stated, continuing to stare at Jikari blankly.

Jikaris eyes widened slightly, falling silent before nodding, "o-okay uhm—" he walked over towards the side table, scribbling something on a napkin. "If you need anything, anything at all, call me, alright?"

Jikari seemed to be such a caring and genuine person, it almost made Edith sick. He seemed to be so honest and for what? He had nothing to gain, so he had no reason to be like this.

"Sure, whatever, bye." He said quietly, looking away from Jikari.

He looked up slightly as he watched Jikari leave, he didn't like Jikari. There was something about him that Edith just... couldn't accept.
