"Do you ever wonder what's past the stars?"
Two small humanoids were on a grassy field as the night sky was spread out above them. One was a simple Inkling, while the other was a Shadowling, a species that had been born with dark magic that could control shadows. The Inkling's name was Prince, and had sun yellow ink. The Shadowling's name was Ebony, and he had almost pitch black ink.
"Well, I was always told it was space, but...not much more than that..."
Prince was the younger brother of an Inkling named Emperor, a wealthy Inkling who'd been considered the unbeatable king of turf wars until team lime green and team blue came along. Ebony was the younger brother of a Shadowling named Noir, the captain of the royal guard back at his home. Unlike Prince and Emperor, Ebony and Noir were actually considered royalty, and Ebony was the heir to the throne. The two had met before, though under rather unfortunate circumstances. Noir had attempted to take over Inkopolis (the home of many sea creatures), and Prince and a group of his friends had to stop him with the help of Ebony and some of his allies.
But now they had peace. The Shadowlings didn't let that happen again, and Noir had received his punishment. The younger brother duo had met up again because they wanted to hang out as friends, and that was what they were doing right now.
"I sometimes thought there were other planets out there...other than the ones I was taught when I was a kid..." Prince said.
"Oh...guess I never really thought that far because I wasn't that into it, hehe..." Ebony laughed nervously.
"Well...that's okay! How's your brother been doing?" Prince asked.
"Good, yours?" Ebony responded.
"Also good. I'm glad he's lessened up on me and lets me take my own path," Prince replied.
During his mission, Emperor had been concerned over what Prince was capable of, and Prince had insisted he was fine. He wound up proving himself in the end anyway, and since then Emperor had loosened his overprotectiveness.
"Oh, good to hear! Yeah, Noir wasn't happy about his punishment, but...I've tried to be more understanding with him since."
"I figured...hopefully we don't get any more problems..."
"Mhm..."
The two stared up at the black of the night, the sky laced with thousands upon thousands of twinkling stars of all different sizes. The moon was the only other source of light outside, its crescent shape visible in the cloudless void.
"It really IS breathtaking..." Ebony sighed as he gazed up.
"True that, it is beautiful..." Prince agreed.
"Maybe next time we should bring snacks, I'm kinda hungry," Ebony laughed.
"We could, but then we'd have to brush our teeth after and it'd probably ruin our sleep a little..." Prince smiled.
"Well...what if it was something like warm milk and cookies?" Ebony suggested.
"The sugar might make us hyper," Prince replied.
"I wouldn't bring THAT many!" Ebony exclaimed.
"I know, I know..." Prince sighed. "I just think that...maybe it's better like this. Just laying out here with a soft breeze and nothing but us and the trees rustling around us."
"Maybe..." Ebony mumbled with a smile.
There was a silence between the two, but they didn't mind.
They just had to make sure they went home before falling asleep here.
