"Welcome to London, England, if this is your home, welcome home, and if your vacationing, enjoy your stay. Thank you for flying, British Airways."
Home. The concept seems so surreal to me still. I can't believe I'm not going to taking a flight back to America anytime soon except for Christmas to see my family. It was March but it was freezing compared to the weather I just left in New York. It's currently Wednesday and I start my new job on Monday. My new boss gave me extra time to get adjusted to the time change and get a feel for the area that is now my new home. It's currently 8 in the morning London time, perfect for me to have the rest of day to get settled. I had four bags with me and grabbed them all and hailed a taxi to the apartment. On the way there the first thing that hit was the driving on the opposite sides. In America you drive on the right and here it's the left. Same with the steering wheel, its on the right side here. I think that might be my hardest adjustment actually, once I save more money for a car, until then, the train it is. In 20 minutes tops I arrived at a beautiful highrise on the outskirts of the city. The door man helped me with my things and I couldn't help but notice everyone here is so kind.
"Welcome home Miss." the kind doorman by the name of William, said after helping me wheel my things to my front door.
"Please, call me Stella." I couldn't help by smile at him.
With the people I've met so far I feel as if my adjustment will be easier. The best part about my new place is that it came pre-furnished, which will be a big help in the long run with money. Looking over at the clock for the first time today, I saw that it was 5 pm. I can't believe I really just spent the whole day organizing my things. After deciding that tomorrow would be the day to get food for my place, tonight I would go out somewhere and get carry out. I grab my big coat and head outside where I once again, hailed a taxi. "Where to miss?" the driver said. "To the best food in London." I was starving. The driver ended up dropping me off at a place called Nando's. He said I will not regret coming here and that I will most likely be here everyday from now on. Now my expectations are high to say the least. I walked up to the bar and I ordered the most popular chicken dish on the menu. After getting my food and arriving back at my building I ran up the stairs. I guess I was too eager to be eating because I bumped right into someone causing me to drop my food and phone.
It was in this moment I knew, nothing would be the same.
