Noise! That was the first thing I heard when I woke up. I couldn't make out what kind of noise it was, but it was familiar, it was something I heard before.
"Brandon, I told you to stop playing." A male voice whispered. I didn't even have any doubts as to who it was, because I'd recognize it anywhere. How could I not know who it was? His voice was the first thing I heard in the morning for the past 15 years of my life. I could hear Shawn whisper a few more words, but couldn't make out what he was saying.
"Fine, but when is mommy waking up? I want to go home." My son said being his usual inpatient self, and as soon as he said it the weird noise I heard disappeared as well. Now I know what it was. It was that video game thing that he always played.
"Soon." Shawn said.
"Will she be alright?" Another voice asked. I knew exactly whom the voice belonged to as well. It was Kiera's voice, and for the first time in a while, the annoyance in her voice was gone. She sounded like the daughter she was before I became her "enemy".
"I hope so sweetie." Shawn said with his voice full of concern.
I was trying to move so they could see that I was awake, but my body felt way too heavy for me to even move my hand. It took me several minutes to finally open my eyes, but when I did, I could see my family standing around the room.
"Daddy look, mommy opened her eyes." Brandon pointed out excited.
"Hey baby. How do you feel?" Shawn asked rushing to my side and taking my hand in his.
"Thank you God." He said kissing my face, with a smile of relief in his lips. "How you feel baby?"
"My head is killing me. My whole body hurts." I croaked.
"You have no idea how scared I was. Never do anything like that again." He said seriously while kissing my hand.
"What happened?" I asked a little confused.
"You fell down the stairs. You hurt yourself pretty bad."
"I was in a hurry to get the kids and then went back to get the phone." I said, telling the last thing I could remember.
"It looked bad. You went through surgery. And you've been sleeping for the last few days."
"Really? What day is it?"
"It's Monday again. I need to go and get the doctor so he can check on you."
"Okay." I nodded slowly and then looked at my kids.
"Baby come over here and give me a kiss." I said to Brandon.
"Mommy I missed you. Can we go back home now." Brandon whined coming over to my bed and kissing my cheek.
"I missed you too. But you know what?"
"What?"
"I saw you and Kiera in my dreams the whole time. We were jumping on clouds and playing with the rainbows. We were doing lots of fun things."
"Really?" He asked with wide eyes.
"Yes, really."
"Can we go home and do all the fun stuff?"
"We have to wait and see what the doctor will say."
"Okay."
"Kiera come over here." I said turning my attention to my daughter. She was standing on the other side of the room, extremely quiet. She was about to say something, but Shawn came back with the doctor before she could get it out.
She stepped back seeing me focus on the door, and I made a mental note to talk to her later.
The doctor that my husband brought into the room was a middle-aged man with a pleasant face and glasses that made him look serious, and he smiled seeing me awake, as if he had been looking forward to it.
He introduced himself and asked questions while checking me with his pen light and stethoscope before telling me I had a head trauma that caused internal bleeding.
"So, will I be able to go home soon, like. tomorrow?" I asked as he made me opened my mouth for his exam.
"Not yet, I'm sorry. You need to stay under observation for a couple more days."
"Is it really necessary?" I insisted.
Honestly, if I would have to stay in bed for God knows how long, I rather do it in my own bed.
"Yes. It really is." He reassured and my husband chuckled.
"I told you she would be running for the door as soon as she opened her eyes." Shawn said, referring to my habit of feeling uncomfortable when stuck in hospitals, which causes me to complain a lot whenever it happens.
"Can we go home now?" Brandon whined again.
"Your mother just woke up and you want to leave already?" Shawn asked frowning, but his tone of voice was playful.
"Go, I'll be fine." I said, even though I wasn't pleased. Not with them leaving, but with the fact that I couldn't go with them.
"I'll ask Solo to take them. I'm not leaving you." Shawn said, touching my face.

It didn't take Solange long to arrive, but it was taking her long to leave. And the kids didn't like that.
Brandon was happy to see his mother awake after days of seeing her sleeping, but he was hungry and sleepy and it wasn't like there was anything for him to do there. He couldn't even lay in bed with his mother without his father scolding him.
Kiera also wanted to go, but because she wanted to be able to lock herself in her room and be alone. She was very happy to see her mother out of that endless sleep, but now that she was awake, she didn't know what to do or say. She felt awkward when she thought about telling her mother how worried she was and how much she missed her. That was what Brandon said, and Brandon was a baby. She wasn't.
She wanted to get out of the room so her mother would stop looking at her, as if expecting her to say something.
Finally, when Beyoncé started to get visibly tired, Solange said her final goodbye and headed out to her car, with the kids following her.
Shawn sat beside his wife's bed and smiled seeing her drifting off to sleep. A lighter sleep this time.
"Did you already eat?" Beyoncé asked with her eyes closed.
Shawn smiled hard at that. She was the one needing care right now, and she was still trying to take care of him.
"Not yet. I'll go get something in a bit."
"Go get yourself some food. I'm just going to nap a little bit. I'm not going anywhere." She yawned.
"You better." Shawn said getting up and kissing her head.
