Chapter 10: Stubbornness

AN: here's chapter 10. Enjoy, people.

Lexi's POV: (five days later)

"Hey Lexi," Dr. Rayne grinned when she entered.

"Hi Dr. Rayne," I smiled back, "good news?"

"Yes; you can leave today," Dr. Rayne laughed when I fist pumped the air.

"Finally!" I beamed, "I'm gonna get ready," I pulled off the covers and stood up- feeling short pinpricks of pain, but nothing too bad.

"Woah, easy there tiger," Dr. Rayne gripped my elbow. I flinched on instinct and her features softened.

I ignored it and grabbed my bag and taking out a pair of jeans.

"Don't you want to wait for your brothers first?" Dr. Rayne asked.

"Nah, I can do this myself," I said, motioning for her to turn around. She did and I took off my hospital gown, sighing in relief when I put on my T-shirt.

"I will wait outside," I announced and Dr. Rayne turned around again. She watched me closely as I walked to the door. I felt very little pain and did jazz hands when I was out of the room.

Dr. Rayne followed me and we both went down to reception.

"No Samuel, you can't have my skittles," I heard Noah snap, "it's not my fault you were too slow!"

"I'm your twin!" Sam protested- they hadn't seen me yet.

"All the more reason to not give it to you," Noah looked up and saw me, "what're you doing out of bed?"

"Well hello to you too," I rolled my eyes, "Dr. Rayne discharged me a couple minutes ago."

"Yeah but you shouldn't be walking around yet- you could get hurt!" Sam exclaimed.

"I'm fine guys!" I groaned in exasperation.

"Hey," Jack jogged up to us and did a double take when he saw me, "what're you doing out of bed?"

"Discharging myself," I replied. Dr. Rayne got the forms and I forced my half brothers to sign it. It took a lot of flattery, blackmailing/threats and crocodile tears to get that.

Flynn's POV:

Currently, Hayden, Antonio, Simon and I were in my office. We were sorting out some gang business when Antonio got a call from Jack. Once he was done, he scowled.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Lexi discharged herself from the hospital."

"Already?!" Simon exclaimed, "but she could get hurt! Why did the others let her?"

Antonio sighed, "apparently she forced them," the corners of his mouth twitched slightly, "stubbornness is in our blood."

"Any progress on Isla and Liam?" I questioned.

Hayden frowned, "no... it's like they've completely disappeared."

We heard the front door open and loud, argumentative voices shouting at each other.

"Doritos are better than Pringles!" Jack said.

"You're wrong!" Noah fired back, "Pringles are bigger and they're more of them!"

"The Dorito packaging is better for the environment," Jack argued.

"Both of you- shut up please," Lexi groaned, "I just got out of the hospital and you're giving me a headache."

Me, Hayden, Antonio and Simon exchanged amused glances before going downstairs.

"Hey Lexi," I greeted her.

"Hi," Lexi grinned.

"Lexi!" Ryan shouted, running down the stairs.

"Ryan!" Lexi mimicked his tone and the two of them hugged. I'll admit- I was a tiny bit jealous that they had such a strong bond.

One by one, everyone came into the hallway to greet her.

We went into the living room and Jack told us what Dr. Rayne said.

About halfway through, Lexi's phone rang.

Lexi's POV:

I answered my phone under the curious gazes of my half-brothers.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Alexandra DeLesco-DeLaCruz," a familiar mocking, cold voice spoke.

I kept smiling, but my insides froze. I quickly got up and sprinted to my room.

"Liam," I whispered, "aren't you and your wife rotting in some jail somewhere?"

"Judge is a friend of ours," he replied, "it's a long story. We want you to know that we're coming for you."

The line went dead.

Breathily heavily, I carefully placed the phone on my desk and went inside the bathroom.

I locked the door behind me and walked over to the sink. I placed my palms on the side of its white surface and stared at my reflection.

Liam and Isla are coming for me.
Ace is gone.
Ben Garcia is after me and my half-brothers.
I'm broken.

I let out a silent scream and began crying. Fumbling slightly, I grabbed a small bottle of sleeping pills and took out four, studying them intently. I raised them to my mouth.

No matter where you are, I'll find you! Ace's voice echoed in my mind. I squeezed my eyes shut and gritted my teeth, feeling the familiar sense of claustrophobia overwhelm me.

I took the pills and flushed them down the toilet, chucking the empty bottle in the bin.

I felt better, but not good enough.

I grabbed a small razor and held it above my arm.

I love you, Ace whispered in my mind.

I let out a short puff of air. What was I doing? What was I thinking?

I threw the razor away and let out a breathless chuckle. Even when he wasn't there Ace managed to affect me.

I washed my face and composed myself, weaving a story to tell my half-brothers about my weird behaviour. I then went downstairs, locking up the negative feelings tightly and shoving it away.

"Hey Lexi," Luke smiled, "everything okay?"

I waved my hand, "yeah, just some old friends calling. Don't worry about it."

Ryan's POV:

She's definitely lying.

I noticed the slight tremor in Lexi's voice when she spoke and how she seemed tense, like she was waiting for an attack.

It pained me that I couldn't help her. But I can't exactly force her to tell us everything- we barely know her. Besides, I wanted to respect her privacy.

Lexi sat down next to be and I wrapped an arm around her shoulders. I could feel some glares burning into the side of my head and I smirked internally.

Haha suckers! I thought, our sister likes me better.

"Can we watch a movie?" Lexi asked.

"Sure, which one?" Tony replied.

"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," she responded immediately.

I put the movie on and we started watching it. By the end of it, Lexi had fallen asleep.

I gently picked her up and carried her to her room and put her in her bed.

"You can trust me Tesoro," I said quietly, " I know something is bothering you, but I won't make you tell me. Just know that I'm here for you."

Just before I exited the room, I heard her whisper, "thank you."
