AN: here's chapter 4. Enjoy, people.

Lexi's POV: (three weeks later)

The last few weeks have been quite tense. I think the brothers have been expecting me to be gone by now. So was I, to be honest.

Me, the triplets and the twins played pranks on each other. They were mostly harmless- like when I put wax strips on their legs when they were sleeping- and quite fun to be honest. Apart from that, I didn't interact with them or the others at all.

Today was the day I'd be starting school. Yay.

I woke up and got ready, definitely not looking forward to the day. Don't get me wrong, I like the school subjects- most of the time- but sometimes the teachers and students can be bullies.

I took a shower and wore a half-sleeved shirt, hoodie and jeans. I wore my necklace and looked at my reflection in the mirror.

Broken.

That's what I was. Broken beyond repair.

I snapped myself out of the vortex of dark thoughts and went downstairs. Ryan had offered to drop me off, but I decided to walk- get some exercise.

I managed to get to school in about fifteen minutes. By that time, I'd formulated a plan on how to have a moderately good year at school:

1) Ignore everyone.
2) Repeat step 1 as many times as necessary.

Boom. Done.

I entered the building and made my way to the office. The incredibly bored receptionist handed me a timetable and books. I actually felt a bit sorry for him.

I pulled my hood up and walked to my class. I silently prayed that I'd have a good year with as little drama as possible. I hoped that Stephanie would find a foster home for me quickly so that I could leave.

Unfortunately, as I was walking, I crashed into someone.

Jackson's POV:

I was walking to my next lesson when I bumped into a girl. She had dark blonde hair and stumbled, but managed to catch herself before she fell.

"Sorry," I said to her, "are you alright?"

"Fine," she mumbled and looked at me, brushing herself off, "just dazed."

However, I could tell she wasn't fine. Her blue eyes were filled with hidden pain, and she walked with the gait of someone who'd been holding the weight of the sky for too long. I knew because I had too.

Everyone thinks I'm the guy who doesn't care about anything or anyone. They don't know that I'm living in Hell. Just three more years and I'll be gone though.

"Excuse me, are you alright?" The girl shook my arm. Oops, I must've spaced out.

"Yeah I'm fine," I replied, "what's your name?"

I heard her mumble something that sounded like 'well there goes the plan' before saying, "Lexi."

"I'm Jackson," I shook her hand, "do you need any help finding your class?"

"I'm good thanks. See you around," she said and quickly left, leaving me slightly confused.

Lexi's POV:

Don't get close to anyone, I reminded myself as I left a probably confuzzled Jackson behind.

Sighing, I opened the door to my English lesson and sat down in at the back in the very corner. Students trickled in, shouting about how their summer went and chatting with their friends. It made my heart ache since it reminded me of him.

The teacher entered and began taking the register. I said 'yes' when my name was called and everyone stared at me.

"Would you like to tell us a bit about yourself?" The teacher asked.

No I would not.

"Um my name is Alexandra, but call me Lexi and I'm 15 years old," I said.

"Anything else?" The teacher prompted. What was this, a police interrogation?!

"No," I said stiffly. Fortunately, he dropped the subject and started the lesson.

After the lesson, I was the first one out of the classroom. I went outside- hoping for some peace and quiet.

I leaned against the wall and began reading my book- Inheritance by Christopher Paolini. It felt very relaxing just sitting and escaping reality.

End of chapter 4.

Not the best chapter, but I hope you guys liked it!

Who here has read the 'Inheritance Cycle'? I'm thinking of watching the movie, but I've heard mixed reviews about it...

Stay safe and thanks for reading :)
