Fluffy white clouds floated just above him, the sun was setting to his right like a dying fire, and the wind ruffled his hair. "Oh, Toothless," he said. "Why am I so tired?" Toothless responded by sighing, and, in the process, releasing a puff of green smoke, which streamed back over Hiccup and made him gag for a moment. "Toothless!" he said, annoyed. "Ugh." He lay back on the saddle and watched the gloom above drift by, silent as shadows. "Sometimes I wish Dad hadn't chosen me," he sighed. "I haven't been doing all that great as chief." Toothless snorted, as if to say, "Yeah right!" Hiccup smiled fondly at his dragon's unwavering loyalty.
Just then, Toothless grumbled loudly. Hiccup moaned and sat up. "What is it, buddy?" He looked down at the mountains below, great white masses, forbidding and deadly. Then he saw something. Something he had never seen the like of before. A glowing blue orb, floating several feet in front and below them. It seemed to be saying something, or beckoning. Hiccup stared at it, entranced.
Suddenly Toothless snarled and dove toward the light. "Toothless!!" Hiccup yelled as the dragon surged forward.

Merida sat down with a groan. She'd been following the wisps for nigh on a hour, and now they just disappeared. She was exhausted. "Great, well, this was a waste a' time, Angus," she said despondently. Angus snorted in response, his head down and his hooves dragging. "I'm sorry I dragged y' int' this wild goose chase," she said, then sighed and looked at the ground.
With her head hung, and thoughts wandering, she didn't see the huge black shape overhead, until Angus's sharp animal senses picked up the strange scent. He whinnied uneasily and stamped his feet. Merida grumbled and said, "Alright, alright, I'm comin'. We'll go home and get you y're oats." Angus whinnied again and tossed his head skyward. Merida narrowed her eyes. She had always known Angus to be a relatively sensible horse. She trusted his instincts. Now alerted to the his strange behavior, Merida knew to take it seriously. She glanced upward and saw the dark shape looming nearer and nearer every second. It was to late to run.
